Rx- you think like me. Until you have full check soccer it is just a boring game.
As for Ronalinho, how do you get a game for waht you did in another game (unless it is fighting or a serious penalty).

i am tipping a brazil- spain final.
as for Rx.. hell american football is even duller game than soccer. the game stops every couple of minutes. as for drama queens, helmets? shoulder pads? (and tight pants!)
have you seen a game of rugby union or rugby league. the speed of soccer, the viciousness of american football WITHOUT HELMETS AND SHOULDER PADS.

Glendo...
I love rugby. It's pretty fierce. Those bastards have to be tougher than hell, but I assure you that you'll rarely get a full contact, snot knocking hit like those in US Football. There's no feeling in the world like hitting some guy so hard...de-cleating him, and planting him back first into the turf. It's like hitting a three hundred and fifty yard drive...you just feel the sweet spot. LOL!
I rarely get rugby, or Australian rules football on the TV here, but when it's on...I'll watch it. BAM...now that's good, clean fun! :-)
I try to pull for the Spring Bucks(?), due to ties with Durban, S.A......but I really just enjoy watching the game.
I really tried to give soccer a fair shot....maybe TC is onto something: full contact soccer?
Think about it: ********************************************* announcer: Smith working his way down field, an impressive foot fake, and boom he's off for a rush around the corner...he's got the corner, but a defender cuts the angle, it's Dashanko. Oh my, more impressive foot work from Smith, he's totally psyched Dashanko & leaves him stunned from the fancy foot work. Now Smith tries to dance around, he's working the ball, working the ball...looking for a clear pass....(then another defender comes from behind with a running start)...loooking...lookin...(BAM!!!)...OH MY GOODNESS...Smith was totally caught off gaurd & decleated just before he could get the pass away....unbelievable hit...it's Bellasarius, with a crushing blow, he's leveled Smith and Dashanko's there for the scraps...Dashanko works the ball back up field...
*********************************************
WUFF, wouldn't that be awesome? I don't know what it is, but I dig the contact. US Football, Hockey, Rugby, Australian rules....those guys EARN their paychecks!!!
Like I said, maybe I'll catch on & watch it again in four years....??
Later, RacerX

Actaully Ice hockey players hit harder. They studied this and with the current size of an NHL player and the speeds they reach it is harder then what you can produce on foot. Remember the average hockey player is bigger then some football (american) teams. And the players move a greater speeds becuase of the skates.
The old days of the mid sized man are over and the big boys hit hard.
I do love Rugby, it is the only sport where injuries are actual stats

Greg! good luck as well, I'll be cheering for you guys tommorow just because spain has been doing so well and they always have so much undelivered potential. A game between Germany and Spain would be really interesting! Racer x- hmmmm...well at least you tried, but if you think football is bad i challenge you to watch half a cricket game!WUFF!!! They are scary, they last for DAYS,I swear and no matter how long you watch them for you can never figure out exactlly what is going on! The reffs wear lab coats and don't speak and when someone catches a ball the whole team rubs their...well erm you know what....on it!!!!!! dodgy! Wycco...that wasn't you! LOL!

ROFL! Crickets not that hard to understand! and as for the... uh, crotch rubbing... thats usually done on the outside of the leg and its to polish a ball on one side to produce swing when bowled by a fast bowler. And as for all the knocks on soccer! Oooh that really got my dander up! I fully agree that most of the players ou there are little premadonna's when it comes to fouls and thats not good- but saying that it is lower then American Football is just wrong!(why do they insist on calling it football anyway?) You cant call it a contact sport when your wrapped in pads! (spring boks) LOL! i realise my opinion is just as biased as those bagging soccer, but still... i need a beer... LOL

ooooooooh! good thing there's a reason for all that inner leg rubbing but i still don't see why the whole team has to do it! That was crazy as hell! Spain so should have won, one goal was dissalloud because one of the spanish players was out of bounds, but the replays showed that he was just inside! ah well, I just hope south korea's unbeleivable luck streak comes to an end when they face germany! Imagine a south korean/turkish final! stranger things have happened...remember 98, france 3, brazil 0! CRAZY!

And yet another team is eliminated due to incorrect rulings.
There is something that I have never been able to understand about football, and that is their total refusal to use modern technology to validate referee rulings.
There is so much money at stake, so much passion etc. yet games are decided by the first call of a referee who can't possibly catch all the action!
With all the goals that was invalidated for Italy, it was so easy to see in the replays that the players were not off-side. As for the Spanish goal, that ball didn't even touch the line! If the referee could have looked at the video replay, there would have been no problem validating the goal.
It has gotten to a point where the FIFA is now censoring the video replays on the giant screens in the stadiums to avoid problems!!
The day they actually begin to rule the game properly, one can begin to become interested in it. And, like Racer said, what the hell is the deal with the added 3 or 4 minutes of game-play. Why don't they stop the clock each time the play stops, like any reasonable sport.
No, I still don't like football (and I didn't even watch the game, just saw the results)

Wow... Didn't see any matches this weekend... still upset England is out... Greg I'm sorry if SK won dishonerably... I'm still pulling for South Korea or Turkey for the cup though... LOL... just because how cool would that be for such a noname team to lift the worlds most prestigous trophy!!!! RacerX, One more advantage of Rugby over American Football- in Rugby they don't stop play every 10 seconds to take a 1 minute break!!!! Also- its the same people playing in the game- they don't have 80 people on a team and switch them out every 5 minutes! (OK thats an exageration- but you get the point)... As for Cricket- heck its boring as hell to watch- but fun to play. England invented it to give the Australians something to feel good about! Wycco...that wasn't you! LOL! LOL- who was it then... anyone we know?

I'm not sure why I bother to continue with the discussion since I don't even like football (soccer), but I read an interview this morning with Sepp Blatter, FIFA supremo.
He was asked if after the problems seen this year, they would not consider introducing a video assistance for the referee, and answered:
"Certainly not! To err is human and it is all part of football."
Wow, now that is an intelligent response. Why don't they also stop transmitting the matches on TV (yes please!) and have people only come to the stadiums to watch the games. Afterall, when the game was created there were no TVs, and so that should be part of football!
Like I said to a friend this morning when he was wondering if Korea might actually win the cup,
"why not, France did in 1998!"
