All is well so far. As far as I can see, the only real danger for me, or any other ex-pat, is if the local people start any anti-westener protest. There will be no threat from Sadam.

Looks like we took a shot at Saddam. Unknown if we gotem.
at least 40 cruise missles and multiple F-117 stealth bombers with lazer guided bombs we used in this attempt.

Watching the pictures of Baghdad with some cars driving around during the air raid, reminds me of a night there back in 1981. I was drinking in a bar with some friends, including a guy who had only arrived that day, when the Air Raid sirens went off and the entire AA started up. 10 minutes into the raid somebody said "if we want to get to the 345 club before the doors are locked, we will have to go now" we left in 3 cars and the new guy was in mine. He was not happy about going out during an air raid and even less happy when, not far into the journey, there was the pitter-patter sound of metal falling on the roof of the car. This caused some panic with the new guy who asked what was going on, somebody said, "don't worry mate, it's only shrapnel falling down, it happens all the time". His face was a picture as he let out a stream of abuse at us, the most polite of which was “you are a bunch of F’in’ nutters."
The guy never went out with us again.

well now that it has started i can only hope and pray that as few people as possible are injured and/or killed. the only silver lining that i can think of is that the iraqi people will have a much better way of life after the invasion.
i hope that at the end of it, we can look back and say with a clear conscience that all of this was worth it. as a society we have already paid a heavy price. i also hope that dubya and his pals can enjoy some of the loot and use the rest for a worthy and noble cause. i hope that i do not ask for too much.

well, for better or for worse it is going ahead. I only hope that it is a short struggle with the majority of Saddams conscript army surrendering, and the elite republican guard following suit. To the people of Iraq; live up the freedom while it lasts, lap up the stability while it lasts[sic] and god please run for shelter when you see bombs falling from the sky. I sincerely hope that i am wrong in my assumptions and predictions of what will happen to the region in the future(and indeed all over the world) after this shocking precedent has been set, for all to follow freeley(sp?) and that we all live happily after, though somehow the odds seem stacked. This is a sad day, though many people will rejoice, and when the battle is 'won' will celebrate a decisive victory...yet maybe history will look back also to these days and find tangible excuses, perfectly undebatable highground and false moral façades upon which leaders can base their own personal scores, amidst the crumbling buildings of baghdad. If that day comes, i would fear to be anybodies enemy. My heart goes out to everyone, the people who will die, the people who will live, the people who will cry and those who shed a tear purely of joy. No one knows exactly what these actions will herald in, but let us hope that all is as it is made out to be, and we all indeed do live happily ever after

update: either SCUDs, Chinease Sunfire, Or Al Samuuds were fired upon the USA. All are illegal Under UN Resolutions
A small Iraqi plane, maybe Cesna or Drone crashed in Kuwait.
A US Helicopter crashed with special forces. All are fine
Still no real indication that Saddam is alive. Be nice if we gotem last night it would change the war completely.

Good move, bombing Saddam... If it worked, that could have saved a lots of life...
I hope civilian casualty will remain under 10.000 but it's not very realistic.
On the other hand, I will not consider this war a success unless AT LEAST 50% of military personel on both side rests in hell. I strongly encourage both army to kill, kill, kill and especially to die, die, die.
Butchers, all of 'em
I remain, disgusted, Srrh

Srrh,
I hope and suspect that your comment was sarcastic! The average ground soldier has no control over military decisions.
Often poorer families who couldn't afford education join the military so they can get a decent job...
Perhaps we can hope military commanders get whacked- but lets not wish it on the average joe-soldier!

I hope and suspect that your comment was sarcastic Of course Wyc. Any number below 75% is unacceptable. 100% would be ideal. If you are ready to kill for any reason (including economic as you mentionned) it is only faire that you should suffer the same faith. G. "DoubleYou" conviced me: all the answers are in the "good book". And the "good book" clearly states, if you live by the sword... The bible doesn't mention the commanders... PS A samourai (which is the "ultimate" soldier) would consider himself already dead, living on borrowed time. Death is the natural outcome of "soldiership"...If one can't accept that, he shouldn't be a soldier... Plato in his republic clearly states that a Sodier's raison d'être is to defend and die for the republic, their collective death acting like a cement for society... Butchers, All of 'em Srrh

ah yes but in Plato's Republic the underlying question is "when should one obey the law?"
I feel the law (1441) says that we should do this
Also, Iraqi soldiers need to laydown and let us handle Saddam. They need to go home and see thier wives and kids grow.
Remember, the republic is based on a crooked government that kills Socrates for speaking out against the communitee. kind of like Saddam killing innocents and not following his agreements
