SG - do you think that there's still a lot of matchfixing going on post-hansiegate? I would have hoped that that scandal exposed cheating in cricket to the point that most players would fear to get involved with gambling syndicates... But I think that's a bit optimistic, actually.

BrainFade, India did not win that game against Zimbabwe. this is my own personal opinion, and i tink that the zimbabwen batsmen simply threw their wickets away. some of the dismisals looked like they were aiming to edge the ball. so yeah match fixing still does go on.
india will beat england today, but get whipped by pakistan. this should set up the odds very nicely so that the bookies will make a lot of money alongwith the players.
personally i'm hoping that we lose to england and end the misery in round one rather then make it to the super sixes.

Didn't a Canadian batter break the record for quickest to a century? I honestly didn't know Canada had a Cricket team before this tourney. LOL.

Well it's curtains for South Africa. I'm very depressed. I certainly hope that our selectors start rebuilding the team around Gibbs, Ntini, Mzondeki, Hall, Dippenaar, Smith and other young and upandcoming players. Boucher has earned his place and I cannot see another wicket keeper who can fill his place in a hurry. Donald has served his time and I think it's time he stepped down (he has announced his retirement from International cricket). The same goes for Gary Kirsten, Lance Klusener, Jonty Rhodes etc all who have had their moment in the sun. Tonight I have witnessed the total destruction of the team that has been around since the early ninties. Theres a lot of new faces but not enough. I'm glad that previously disadvantaged players are being recognised and I know there are many more out there in the townships bowling tennis balls against batsmen swinging nothing more than single ply, shaped wooden planks. South Africa awaits........ O Siyeza, o siyeza , sizofika webaba noma (we are coming, we are coming, we will arrive soon)O siyeza, o siyeza, siyagudle lomhlaba (we are coming, we are coming, we are moving across this earth) Siyawela lapheshaya lulezontaba ezimnyama (we are crossing over those dark mountains) Lapha sobheka phansi konke ukhulupheka (where we will lay down our troubles)

the only 2 african countries that got through are kenya and zimbabwe. now that is only because of politics and the gross stupidity of england and new zealand in boycotting these venues. england in particular will be kicking themselves silly.

Re NZ boycotting kenya- i agree, absolute stupidity, not only did kenya get undeserving points, but also NZ almost missed qualifying for the super six. In their defence though, the point must be made that a few months ago(i can't remember the details) a bomb exploded on a bus outside the hotel they were staying in, killing french and german citizens, which came as a shock to have terrorism so close at hand. They were lucky once and i suppose did not want to risk anything, small as the risk may have been. I just wonder if NZ and kenya are due to play another match in kenya whether we(NZ) will throw those points away too, hence giving kenya a greater chance of taking a major place in the end.
Bad luck for South Africa- They deserved Kenya's spot.

yep, that was at karachi and the new zealand skipper was pretty shaken afterwards when he recounted the horrible details. the shock was still writ large on his face and the time he spoke about a man who lost an arm was terrible. he broke down in front of the cameras and i don't blame him at all.
england though..... well i can uderstand their reasons for not wanting to play in zimbabwe. but i wonder what god they achieved. maybe i am being skeptical, but a huge part of me does not believe that they didn't play because of the fear caused by a letter.

Bad luck for South Africa- They deserved Kenya's spot. No bad luck involved. They just did'nt play well enough when it mattered.

Well, the Aussies won it again... Freakin awesome score 359/2! it looked to be all over for india as soon as Tendulkar got out on 4 The best team won... and all in all a fairly boring World Cup. Crazy scoring system- one that disagrees with me.

well there are a lot of indians who were rooting for the aussies. well i can count just 2, me best pal and i. on saturday we saw a procession celebrating india's victory and the only thing that we thought was "fucking idiots". on sunday it was a bit satisfying to see all the mounfull faces on these idiots. we sat in a bar and generally had a nice time rubbing it in.
but full marks to the aussies for a job very well done. it would have been a shame if rain caused a re-match. rickey ponting led from the front and there is no better sight than a captain winning the final for his team and his country. be proud of what we have witnessed, i doubt we will see many performances like that again ever.
