Brainfade,
Theres nothing wrong with patriotism. If More South Africans were proud of ther country then perhaps we would be a stronger nation, with less of a divide amoung people. This World Cup gives us a chance to pull together for our Proteas, even though they are still not as representative a team as it should be but thats another story. So what if we lost the first match, the World Cup is'nt over yet. If we win it, nobody will see the end of World cup cricket adds for at least another 4 years. Live with it. and enjoy the spectacle. Be grateful that the opportunity to go and see a match was there if you were able to get tickets.
Enjoy R22 from a cold and wet UK

Glendo - LOL. The thing is you're probably right, but hopefully not... Raptor, I agree with you. I love SA and I'd be totally stoked if we won the world cup. Maybe I was a bit harsh on them for losing the first game, but you've got to see the ads they're showing, man. OK, maybe the first couple of times I saw them they were kinda moving, but LG, Castle Lager (blech!) and Standard Bank went the route of making only one big budget commercial each, meaning that EVERY ad break we see the same things, over and over and over... I've got them meomorised by heart already and the WC hasn't even been on for a week. LG has this one - it's not even a SA patriotism ad, it's a fucking Matrix rip off (like we haven't seen bullet time 10000000000 times before) they probably show it worldwide, actually and IMHO, it sucks poo out of a horses anus.

Brainfade, You want to complain abotu advertising, come over to the UK for a week. I'll drive you the moer in ek se. It's like they have a standard Ad package cd and that gets played over and over and over. And half the ads are so K@k even the english don't get it. I see the boys at Ogilvy have been making some really good ads for VW again. They show trhem over here and you can pick out the landmarks aorund CT. In fact most of teh really cool ads are ashot in Cape Town using hte usually stunning SA models ooooooooooo Beneatha Hunter Jum jum (What a lovely nam as I'd like to be Beneath her get it get it) I can imagine those slow motion, moody kind of ads with the standard zulu warry in the background cab be irritating but I'd give anything a decent Castrol ad. A can of the Best, those are really brilliant. Grin and bear it, theres far worse out there believe Me!!

Yeah, you're right man - it's a small price to pay for having the WC here in SA. About ads shot in CT - there're so many of them being shot around this time of year it's actually ridiculous. My gf just turned down a six month job working on the set of the new Mad Max film . Anyway, there are camera crews everywhere in CT and, even better, models everywhere. Speaking of which, a good friend of mine is the production manager at a shoot for some UK clothing line and yesterday, he got to go and fetch none other than supermodel, Sophie Anderton from the airport - YIPEEE!!! Here's a pic: www.flibberygibbert.freeserve.co.uk/pics/anderton/sa006.jpg

Raptor - I nearly forgot. Speaking of a can of the best: did you know that those three guys (forget their names now) have actually just released a full-length theatre production based on those Castrol ads. Apperntly, it's actually quite good.

Bugger !! Thats not too good, but we do have a wealth of talent to draw from so I'm sure they'll find a suitable replacement for him. Danny theres so many guys emerging from the townships. about 50% of the Western Province cricket team is now form previously disadvantaged backgrounds. The future of cricket is safe in SA. Jonty will be missed but it gives someone else an opportunity to show their metal. With Shane Warne out as well,it seems there is a new order in cricket emerging. Yikes, would'nt it be great for cricket if the Windies won it again If Sa can't do it, I hope they do . I'll drink to that Brainfade, That Sophie is one stunning cherrie my china . PS: That black guy in the cast for the castrol ad is actually a Professor in English literature, so I'm not surprised they wrote a play. When does it start? and will it be palying at the Baxter or the Nico? I'd like to go and see it while I'm at home.

i dont know how much chance WI stand with when they were just beaten by N.Z, but i agree, it would be awesome to see them on top again, and considering lara's phenominal return to form and potentially another good score vs NZ(cut short via an amazing run-out, that would have to be one of the best i've seen in a looong while) they have a solid base if they could build upon it.

warnies mum gave her son a tablet that would cause him to lose weight so that he'd look good on tv. ROTFLMAO.
seriously, i don't think he should have gone home. i don't see how that tablet would boost his performance on the field. and in what is going to be one boring world cup, the loss of warnie and the magic he does with the ball will be missed.
still, the aussies have a bowling attack that can beat any batting line up to pulp. england and pakistan also are in with a shot. i was rather dissapointed to see gough as a comentator, come on you dumb poms, darren gough is the best damned bowler england have. or have i been away from cricket for too long??

Pity about Jonty, but now Graham Smith has been selected, which is cool, coz I was at school with him...
Raptor - a) Not sure when/where the production is taking place; I think at the Baxter.
b) I'll also be stoked if Windies win.
