Formula 3000 starts this week! I'm excited- not had a chance to watch a race before (only got to read about the races in the past)- but this year Speed Channel is going to show all the F3000 races live in the US... Here's to San Marino and my first live F3000 race!!!!

I wish I got to see F3000 live... Although I fear you might be disappointed Wyc... (please don't ask me why - I love it for what it is - most of the time!!!) Hoping it's as good as my first season I saw F3000 in (hehehehehe!! STILL the BEST!! 1998). I'll post an entry list shortly.

In the past there have been some very good fights in F3000, and I have enjoyed most of the races I have seen.
The problem now is that F3000 is running out of steam so to speak. The entry list is shrinking, and I would not be surprised if it ends up going the way of Indy Lights.
From last years experience, the Nissan World Series is certainly on par both with regards to performance and racing.

What I would love, either F3000, or a new series (it could take the name Formula 2, since there is no Formula 2 anymore)...
To be run concurently with Formula 1 as a true feeder series. I like a nice FULL grid. Having two formula running together would beef up the gird- AND make the races more exciting.
How drivers handle traffic often makes the race more exciting.
If one formula is a dud (in terms of excitement) at a track perhaps the other formula would be more interesting to watch!
Other races (Le Mans for example) use the multi-formula approach, and I think it works quite nicely!
What would make the race more interesting- is if the quicker of the lower formula were aproximately the same speed as the slower of the faster formula...
Couple that with the slower formula getting a half lap head start (or wherever the next suitable starting straight is)...
Make the quicker formula have to hunt the slower formula down and OVERTAKE them for position... LOL I know I'm dreaming now and it will never happen- but seriously- I would love to see F3000 (or a new formula) race WITH F1.
Naturally, not all F1 tracks have the Pit space for more than 12 teams- such races, such as Monaco would be removed from the calandar- or run at a different time.

You mean you want a series with a Class A and a Class B like Le Mans, but for single seaters??? We get that in F3 - certainly in Britain and SudAm, not sure about the rest (SudAm's F3 I recall is full of 14-15 year olds!!!!) ANyway, I promised an entry list (shortly I know, but I have work to do as well!!!) Arden International RED Townsend Bell Bjorn Wirdheim Brand Motorsport I seem to remember these maybe being red but they're new so I;m not sure Nicolas Minassian Gary Paffett Coloni F3000 Zsolt Baumgartner Ricardo Sperafico Den Bla Avis Robbie Kerr - Kerr is having some sponsorship problems at the moment, and Jan Magnussen has been testing for the team in recent weeks, so his appearance on the entry list is not necessarily accurate. Nicolas Kiesa Durango Formula RED Are they red again? Who knows??!! lol!! Raffaele Giammaria Giorgio Pantano Jordan Grand Prix Junior Team Derek Hill Enrico Toccacelo PSM-ISR Charouz Jaroslav Janis Yannick Schroeder Red Bull Junior Team F3000 Patrick Friesacher Vitantonio Liuzzi Team Astromega Tony Schmidt Jeffrey van Hooydonk
Also an entry from BCN - apparently driven by Gaston Mazzacane, Marcel Costa perhaps or someone else who I forget!! lol!! But you know who Gast-on is surely...
There's not that many red ones... oh Coloni were RED last year... though that's not really their traditional colours... you will have to wait and see. Jordan Junior is Super Nova, and Den Bla Avis (complete with circle!) are Petrobras, and before that Den Bla Avis. MAkes sense to me!!!

Couple that with the slower formula getting a half lap head start (or wherever the next suitable starting straight is)... They did that in the BTCC - trust me, it's a stupid idea!! To quote Alain Menu - "It's like a circus"... In all seriousness, it bore no relevance to the actual series, and just messed up the races because the slower cars would get in the way all the time, and then you'd have the slow cars winning the sprint races because they didn't have time to catch them up. And then they had pit stops thrown in as well. The only reason they did it was to try and rescue the BTCC, but merging it with the National Saloons was not the best thing they ever did. They got more interest when they put a few MG's in than the whole of the national saloons.

That would be Den Blå Avis then Senninha!
Oh well, judging by that list I take it I was wrong in saying the entry list is shrinking. I must say that looks like a very interesting field. I'll keep watching Pantano and certainly Björn Wirdheim. Didn't realize Townsend was to be his teammate this year!
Better check Eurosport if they have programmed Saturday's race!!

Well- from what I understand- they all practically drive the same car... Same car, different teams... may as well be different cars... Btw, the teams aren't completely new, the aforementioned Den Bla Avis and, now I;m confused, Henrik help me!!, I was about to say Jordan Junior is Super Nova and therefore run by Jonathan Williams (FW's son - or is that DBA???) whatever, the two teams are the same. Am I right when I think Jordan is Super NOva??

Thank you, it's a lot of effort for those of us without readily available circles to use them There's only 20 cars, but the talent, while not as strong as Nissans, is decent enough. Funnily, both series appear to have gone for the 'old hands' in light of F1 picking all the 'young 'uns' out of the lower stuff....although my friend Mr Janis (I would try to do the czech s but like the a with a circle...) is only about 19 I think anyway... he's probably 20 now, but no older for sure - he's younger than me.

Ahh, should have checked on the best F3000 site on the web first. (hey, they have live timing - done quite professionally from watching Eurosport i think!)... www.formula-3000.net/teams_2003.phpAccording to this, Toccacelo is with SuperNova. I got the other list from Autosport. So Super Nova is Jordan. So Den Blå Avis should be Petrobras (i.e. what Petrobras was before...)
