What do you make of N.Korea announcing they have a nuclear weapons program- and more powerfull weapons of mass destruction than Iraq? My first reaction was to chuckle "Sneaky Bastards." This puts Bush into a trap- by his own justifications for war with Iraq (hostile nation with weapons of mass destruction- breaking of UN treaties)- if Bush attacks Iraq- he now has to attack N.Korea or show himself as a hypocrite. If Bush goes to war with Iraq but not N. Korea- it prooves his motives were not what he said they were. If Bush goes to war with Korea he faces more world-wide hatred- possibly will require re-enactment of the draft in this country- and overall- will kill his political chances of a 2nd term. LOL- Did I not say that Bush declaring an "axis of evil" would make those nations stand up for each other for common defense. Bush's stupidity is now biting him in the butt!

Actaully here is the spin. Now that N. Korea has confirmed Nukes the USA does not have the ability to help innocents that could be murdered in the region. Also he can bliam Bill Clinton for not presing the issue. You see this as being a hippocrate and i see an opportunity to get my message accross. NOw bush can say that we need a Star Wars Program to protect us from N. Korea. He also can say that Iraq has tried to obtian weapon's grade plutonium from N. Korea, further fueling the fire.
This helps BUSH

Found this questionning on bbcnews...the theory has merit. See what you think:
"Is this about a nuclear device or a bargaining device?
Michael Yahuda, Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics, said the crucial factor was that North Korea, led by the "Dear Leader" Kim Jong-il, had made an admission.
"By admitting this, the North Koreans are trying to use it as leverage to get something from the United States."
Washington will want to be satisfied that North Korea does not in fact develop a nuclear bomb. "That's how they have got things in the last ten years, by playing this kind of hardball brinksmanship," he said.
According to Professor Yahuda, the North Koreans have complained that they face problems in getting 500,000 tons of heavy fuel oil which they were promised every year under a 1994 agreement on their nuclear programme.
Under the agreement, North Korea said that it would not develop nuclear weapons in exchange for the construction of two modern nuclear plants financed largely by South Korea and Japan. The oil was supposed to tide them over until the reactors come on stream.
But work on the reactors, supposed to be completed by 2003, started only this summer."
That's what I call a nuclear dialogue...also known as Mushroom Diplomacy... ;D

Not sure if they actually have nukes but are in the process of purifying Uranium. I'll try and clarify. Regardless, as you say TC it now gives them bargaining power.

I am going to stop polluting the Iraqi thread with my korean rethoric...I'll pollute the Korean thread instead...lol
Today on the very american ABC news:
"North Korea's state media kept up a stream of alarmist statements Friday after a senior diplomat told British reporters in Pyongyang that "pre-emptive attacks are not the exclusive right of the U.S.."
See why pre-emptive strikes are dangerous?

i see this as an old dictator (kim jong-il?) wanting to cause terror and anarchy just before he passes away. he is an old boy now, and i think in the arrogance and denial he has shown during his reign (buy letting the population starve whilst i build enormous military might) is nothing compared to the "finale" he seems to be planning.
on the flipside, perfect timing. america's centre stage antics are being challenged by a 3rd world country, and even digging into america by throwing it's verbal diarrohea back at them. LOL!

Korea is laughing all the way, they know the Americans don't have the balls to fight anyone who can fight back. They will get whatever they ask for, with the americans kissing their ass's in their rush to please them.

Danny- hate to say this, but if Bush presses the issue he will get the backing he needs to go after N. Korea. A bog portion of america already is talking about taking Iraq out and then moving to N. Korea. The one thing americans dont like is a person who cliams that they will attack us without any reason. Remember putting an aircraft carrier off thier shore is just a game, but if Korea shoots at that boat there will be hell to pay.
Also remember Iraq is under a conditional surrender, N. Korea is just breaking a treaty. These are 2 diffrent situations. treaties get broken everyday, if you surrender you surrender

It's getting warmer and warmer... From the BBC this thursday: "North Korea has warned that it has the ability to strike American targets anywhere in the world if provoked. Pyongyang was responding to the decision by the United Nations nuclear watchdog to refer it to the UN Security Council for breaching nuclear non-proliferation agreements. Amid mounting tension Japan warned that it would "use military force as a self-defence measure" if North Korea started to "resort to arms against Japan". Japanese Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba added that such a defensive move would not amount to a pre-emptive strike." Hmmm. I had never thought I would see a WWIII. Now chances are good, that it'll be the last thing we'll all see. A big hand of applause all arounds for the great leaders of the world who drove us there in reccord time. "Encore, Bravo, Bis..."
