Qualy are over....time for a thread....
Jarno the Troll reigned supreme in this afternoon’s first qualifying session to take provisional pole position for this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Renault driver set a best time of 1MIN 22.358 to finish a mere 0.055 ahead of Half Schumacher in the leading Williams. Meanwhile, Mark "Forster" Webber impressed in the Jaguar to finish in third spot with a time of 1MIN 22.625.
David "Brainfade" Coulthard, after the announcement of being retained by McLaren for 2004, performed consistently in all three sectors to set a time of 1MIN 22.786, which was 0.428 off the pace.
Burinnho was the first of the Bridgestone runners by finishing in fifth place and just over half a second off the pace. He was marginally ahead of Juan Manuel Alonso, who completed a good afternoon’s work for Renault.
Olive – quickest man on track this morning – lost time in the final sector and finished in seventh place, setting a time of 1MIN 22.986. He was just ahead of RPM in the Williams, who was unable to match the performance of his team-mate. The Colombian eventually finished 0.9 off the pace, with work to do during tomorrow’s final qualifying session.
Michael Scumbucket set a disappointing time of 1MIN 23.430 to finish over a second off the pace and down in ninth spot, marginally ahead of Nick "Look mom, no IQ" Heidfeld, who completes the top ten for Sauber. His team- mate, Heinz-Harald Ketchup is a further two-tenths down.
The Iceman, meanwhile, failed to take advantage of his good run in the first two sectors by running wide in turn 11. It meant the Finn ended the session some 1.3 seconds off the pace, and behind his world championship rivals.
Jenson Butt-boy and Jacques "the drunken lumberjack" Villeneuve finished in line of stern for BARf; the Englishman bettering Newtown's time by a mere 0.020. They finished Justin ahead of Wilson in the Jaguar, who set a time of 1MIN 21.343, placing him 15th.
Giancarlo Fisichella, the grid playboy, who suffered with an engine failure this morning, was next up for the Jordan team. The Italian finished ahead of his team-mate, Ralph Firman (Ralph Firman Sr.'s son); the duo well over two seconds off the pace.
Meanwhile, Jos Graveltrappen finished in 18th place for Minardi, with Nicolas Kia in 19th, some 4.6 seconds off the pace. Cart boy endured a tough session for Toyota, spinning in turn 13 to end up last and 32 seconds off the pace.
