I agree with all the webber speculation. But when it comes to race day, he does not live up to his qualifying. Alonso on the other hand, is an amazing racer who is very fast during the race. maybe its just the Jaguar that is holding back Webber on race day.

webber has all the makings of a champion. superb physical fitness, a cool calm head, excellent race craft and like michael is IMO responsible for making Jag look good. Smokin' (and Julio) .... Too bad for Mark he's got the Jaguar LC to deal with ... . I'm looking for his fantastic P3 qualifying to be nullified on account of said LC. Look for Ralf to stay ahead of him, and Juan to pass him (although both William's are on the dirty side of track). Also, should the Jag LC crater (as it usually does), it poses a real problem for Rubens, who's right behind Weber. Should Rubens look to go to his right, he might meet Trulli, who while behind him in P6 AND on the dirty side of track, has the unbelievable Renault LC working in his favour. Going to be a great start ..... CFF

Weber!!!
You can only realistically beat your team mates as any sort of true comparison. Is it that ALL of his team mates have been crap? Yoong, fair enough, was crap. But Pizzaboy was supposed to be highly rated and Weber made him look stupid. Now I know Wilson is only just arrived and his aggression from the back of the grid at the starts is well known. But Weber just keeps blowing away team mates. I would be hard pressed calling the Jag a good car. P3?? I mean people make a big deal when RS outqualifies Monty by 0.001 seconds and vice versa. Webber is putting daylight between him and his team mates.
Would be fantastic to put Alonso or Monty or Kimi alongside Weber to compare. He has probably caught the attention of one of the big three teams and added an extra zero to his driver contract.

RESULTS: Alonso #1, Kimi #2, JPM #3
Brilliant race (and first win) for Alonso! Otherwise, a typical (boring) Hungarian event, with the exception of Ralf passing nearly everyone almost at will, in order to make up for his first-lap spin. Geeez - Ralf amazed/impressed me today - he even did his brother on the first corner!
Get's me to wondering .... with the incredible performance of the Renault today (a large part of which is due to chassis/suspension AND Michelin tires), why are they messing with an entirely new engine for next season? Sure they were down on power early in the year, and they likely aren't quite at the level of the other 3 top teams. But the improvements they've made have been more than enough to give them a car that on any given day, can be a potential podium winner. It's reliable, and the tweaks they've managed this season haven't left them in anyone's dust.
I know their sheer HP output is a factor when it comes to ultimate top speed, but is it worth the risk (in throwing away all the gains they've made this season) just to pick up a few more mph's at selected tracks? Not to mention it will be at the expense of higher CofG ...

I have to say it, Ralf drove a brilliant race today after that first lap spin. If it wasn't for Alonso out front, I would say he was the man of the day... Never thought I would find myself saying this. His pass on Michael was almost amusing, it looked like Michael was cruising, never expecting Ralf to try something, and then...
Congratulations to Alonso on his first (of many?) victory. Brilliant race, brilliant qualifying lap. The kid is amazing!
Monty almost threw it away in the end, and Kimi did a solid race. The championship is looking great, with the top three so close.
Monza should be a great race with Ferrari giving it their all to take a home victory.

How about that RS carving his back through the pack?
What was just as remarkable was that JPM didn't put ANY effort into trying to get by Webber, opting to wait for pitstops instead. Had he tried I would have put even odds on making it or being out of the race. While that is totally out of character when compared to his first 2 seasons it is exactly the conservative approach that makes the most of a season as opposed to a single race. I mentioned that over @gp2003 and no one has even mentioned it. After showboating most of last season he drove a very quiet, uneventful race at Suzuka to finish 4th. At the time I said it looked like signs of him trying to play smarter, which had been his shortcoming previously. I would definately say he looks to be maturing and the proof is in his improving consistancy. I'm going to be curious to see what his fans have to say about the RACER sitting back and letting the race come to him.
Great performance by by FA. Webber gets a big tip of the hat as well.

I'm going to be curious to see what his fans have to say about the RACER sitting back and letting the race come to him. I don't think that risking a race incident trying to overtake Webber in the Hungaroring, while at the same time challenging for the drivers' championship would be a wise racing decision. JPM tried to pass MS, and he promptly closed the door. In the end, The pitstop strategy of Williams paid again, and even MS was left behind. A bit of a disastrous start, tho. I reckon things would have been quite different hadn't the start of both Williams been so odd. The final result just adds up to the Thrill in this year's championship. Next comes Monza, where JPM won his first F1 race. Can barely wait for it.

Well done Nando, a thoroughly deserved race win!
Nice to see passing at the Hungaroring!
Jacques got screwed again after a great start.
Michael sucked tit, I loved it.
Looks like Ralf served his penaly after all.
Williams need new LC.
Youngest winner and podium ever!
Can't wait for Monza!

srrh,
You respectfully missed off:
"Go Jaguar"
now strongly in position for 5th this season... With strong development in winter- Jaguar in '04 could be the Renault of '03.
What a ride from Webber and Jag! He was truly racing with the big boys- no conflicts- no safety cars- no retirements (well 1- Rubens)- The Webber/ Jag combo fully earned their result in Hungary!

Well I guess some one has to disagree. On the whole I found this race rather boring. I'm not taking anything away from Alonso he did what he had to do to win. The only thing that really changed for me is the driver in front and the TV coverage focusing more on the other drivers rather than on Alonso. Williams had a bad start, Webber played choo choo train leader(ala Montoya Monaco 02) for the first stint holding everyone up and allowing Alonso to get a great gap. Ralf worked his way through the field a bit too easily, even Villeneuve let him by without any problem. The only person that seemed to try against Ralf was Webber. Ralf passed Michael but didn't pass Juan lol How things change, I guess he wants that new contract. I hope the next race is a bit more exciting than this one from the ontrack action point of view

Half ?Go Williams, Go Renault.... McLaren, go home....S. Srrh, as a JPM fan and the fact that he's heading to McLaren in a year's time, I'm afraid I'll have to cheer on for Juan and McLaren. hehehe As for JPM not trying to pass Webber, I think he made the right decision. He past Trulli when the opportunity presented itself but caught Webber in the wrong place. Knowing the Hungary track as a dirty track, why risk it when he had a pit stop coming up. He has way more at stake than Ralf. If it were Indy or some other track, he would have made his move on the track. I say good for him. It's funny how he chose to back off a bit lost the backend. The boy and that car are meant to be pushed 100% at all times it appears. Cheerz M3

I have to agree with Justan. Im happy for FA and wished MW could have gotten better than the traditional 6th, but overall it was sort of a boring race.
The really exciting part is how the points ended up after the race. I dont remember the last time we had a 3 way fight for the WDC. Absolutely awesome!!!!
