Guys and girls I have to admit, I'm addicted!!! I'm addicted to mozzarella, you know these little italian cheese balls in liquid. I love them! Here in Forlì (italy) they cost almost nothing, about 89 cents each. I dunno, together with tomatos and balsamico a bit of oil and a bit of salt - man there is nothing better for dinner or breakfast!!!
I eat it quasi every day and I haev to admit, it's great! It even makes you lose weight!!!
Well, ok, so far my little essay on Mozzarella....you can lock me up again now...

LOL- here in America, Mozzarella comes in blocks, is white, and besides being a little creamy is almost tasteless...
I've not had cheese in liquid before- I would be scared if it wasn't for the fact that I remember in Europe all Cheeses taste better than they do here in America...
I'm not sure whats done differently here. You would think that Mozzarella would be Mozzarella... Muenster would be Muenster... Cheddar would be Cheddar...
But its not so - American cheeses (by the same name) are fatty, tasteless... and why the hell do they all go tough and stringy when you cook with them?
Oh well... just a jealous rant- from a man in a land without decent cheese (unless you buy the expensive imported brands)!

wyc, u can get the propor stuff in the states, cause i'm addicted to mozzarella as well, and so's my family. it's just not called "mozzarella" but boccancini (they come in a tub in the states, and there are about 4 or 5 little balls of them in this tub). the other kind of cheese i am mad about it feta cheese, every week i buy either mozzarella or feta at the store, and it's always all gone within the day i buy it

MOZZARELLA MAKES YOU LOSE WEIGHT!!!!??!!!!??!!!! Can you please develop this one ;D Simple. Chris use to eat 11 BigMacs every day. Now he eats Mozzarella. He is loosing weight, thus Mozarella makes him loose weight. It's following the same sort of logic that he became a Ferrari Fan. Get a Reblochon and make a Tartiflette: you will not loose weight, but will enjoy getting fat!!! lol S...

LOL... well Italian Mozarella is surely different to our Mozarella...
BUT... if memory serves me from my visit to the Super Wal-Mart to get groceries (Yes, I'm one of those freaks who looks at ingredients and nutrition counts when buying food).... our Mozarella is like, 110 Calories a serving. Cheddar is 130... I think...
Not sure how accurate my memory is- but I do recall Mozarella IS lower in fat than Cheddar, Muenster, American, Colby- and most of the other Common grocery store cheeses.
Swiss is lower fat too... maybe because of all the holes ;D... or maybe, what ever makes a cheese orange also gives it fat!
Thus... Srrh's guess is partly correct... I'm betting Chris used to eat Cheddar balls for lunch- by switching to Mozarella he is saving 20 calories per serving!

Hey Wick, The only reason cheese is orange is because of food colouring. I personally only ever buy white cheddar, the orange stuff wierds me out.

LOL... that would explain why all the Cheshire cheese I've found in America is bright pink!
I thought I wasn't crazy and that it wasn't that colour back home!

People you crack me up!!! Well, the thing about losing wheight may also be due to another fact: In the mornings I eat nothing run into the laboratory of terminology work 12 hours a day and then come back to eat a caprese-salad (da Silva, are you a cook? ) and afterwards a plate of pasta which is pretty decent here I have to say. (I only buy Barilla pasta, it's cheap but nervetheless the best!, btw: anyone remember Paolo Barilla, - F1 in 89 and winner at LM, he is the son of the Barilla-pasta-founder) So you see, 12 hours of work, only 1 meal, hey Srrh or Greg you should too, it makes you lose weight. Errrr, didnt want to say anything about the shape of you two, just to point that out.... But yeah Caprese is absolutely great. BTW: about cheese in other countries. For christmas I was home at my parents' and also bought mozzarella, german Mozzarella. Forget it!!! I will import Mozzarella when I'm back in Germany!!! Anyways, thx for the replies

Caprese is another one of those "tricolore" salads the Italians are famous for... try bocconcini with ripe sliced tomato and fresh basil leaves... drizzled of course with Xtra virgin olive oil, and red wine vinegar (balsamic if you must), and fresh cracked peppercorns. If you can get the unripened bocconcini made with buffalo milk you are in for an even bigger treat! It makes the regular baby mozzarella taste like Wycco's process cheese.
Accompany with Valpolicella or Masi rocca della Macie.
Buon Appetito!

I might recommend a Pinot Grigio with that as well.

Cine,
I can only agree abot the buffalo milk version. There's a pizzeria near my office where they make an outstanding pizza just using tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and basil.
By the way, not to brag or anything, but we are blessed here in Geneva with many excellent pizza places, where the pizza has nothing to do with its American counterpart. These are a real treat!
And last but not least, my big rant for the day. I love just a simple mozzarella and tomato salad, but the problem is that th tomatoes you find here do not taste of anything!! Since a number of years, producers have gone for producing beautiful looking, nice red smooth tomatoes, THAT DON'T TASTE ANYTHING!!! I hate it!! The only tomatoes we can get here that still have a trace of taste are the small cherry tomatoes.
