I won’t go into the absurdities of American Football or Baseball; it’s your country and what you want to watch is up to you. Anyway, I used to play “Shove Halfpenny” so I am hardly a total sport purest. HOWEVER, wot the fcuk was ESPN doing, showing a spelling contest for 3 hours??? At least it was called “The National” and not “World Series”. Have you never heard of “spellchecker” I clearly remember my English, yes English, teacher, telling me “Do not to allow your inability to spell, stop you from writing essay’s or compositions. You have a wonderful imagination and creative writing ability, carry on with your writing and let the dull people of the World correct your spelling.”

Oh man!! It's good to know someone feels about it like I do. I was having lunch with a buddy of mine a couple days ago. We were at a sports bar so naturally they had ESPN on...and all the freaking 17 screens in that place were showing that sh!t!!!
Now don't diss chess...I actually like it a lot.

ESPN = Shit Pure and simple. They interrupt the most exciting(relative term) parts of everything they show to advertise themselves, and the crap they are showing. They had 3 successive adbreaks right in the middle of the indy500. 3 in a row! all showing exactly the same crap! Rant over

Now don't diss chess...I actually like it a lot. Used to love to play when I was a kid... Although, I've not met many American's who know how to play since I moved to the US. (is this a Southern thing- or do American's just never learn?)... But like many things- it may be OK to play... but boring as hades to watch!

I like chess, but watching it on tv as a sport can be a little dull, especially watching the grandmasters taking an hour between moves.
Yes it has been a televised sport, very quickly removed from tv

ROFLMAO...chess and the Southern thing. Maybe the Southeast? I have several friends at work that STILL play it. I was taught by my father as a child, and quickly gave it up for the Spelling Bee!...Just kidding...I gave it up for American Football.
I'd have gladly given it up for darn near any other sport for that matter. It always seem to go a little too slow for me. I know, I know...no patience, but ...
as for games...I moved on to Risk (loved the strategy, felt like three dimension chess...but I hated the "dice" factor)! From there I moved on to Axis & Allies. A 5 player game that was just a ten times more complex game of Risk. Good board game, but again those darn dice...wuff. Finally I moved up to Age of Empires, and Age of Empires II, etc, etc. Love the real time, NO dice, computer action. No time lately to play, but I'd recommend it to ANYONE who likes strategy games, and conquering games.
Wow, how'd I drift off to this game stuff anyway, when we started off talking about the fascinating wolrd of sports via the spelling bee? LOL! ;-)
LOL, RacerX

Wow- id like to meet this fascinating wolrd of sports you talk of, sounds like an interesting guy tsk tsk JWK - nobody likes a smartass... hey wait a sec - with an eagle eye attention to detail and spelling ability like that you should sign up for the Spelling Bee Championships!! Has NZ ever had a World Spelling Bee champion? You could be the first and just as some added insentive i don't think Australia has ever had a champion in that particular sport - you could make us look very umm... what's the word?....
