I thought the training given to boxers after a knockdown, was to get back on your feet as soon as possible??? Apparently not, the new practice, at least according to Clifford Etienne, is to fall down, carefully take out your gumsheild, then close your eyes and pretend to fall asleep. I hope they withhold your purse, you asshole.

yeah that was bad. Even Tyson commented that it was not the fight he wanted, even though he KOed in 49 sec.

See guys,
that's why I always preferred Karate. With "semi-contact"-fights you dont have got this "to buy a fight" bullshit. I dunno, I really love boxing, It's really cool, I really also like full-contact, (admitted I'm a very bad full contact fighter-too scared of pain, semi-contact is better, but still Im no great fighter) but well, semi-contact figting with points is..., I dunno, it's somehow better. I ike it more. BTW: My favourite boxer was Chris Eubank, well nowdays it's the Klitschko-brothers and Lennox.

Danny Boy, Not sure if you should post about that "match" under the sports section. Probably humor would have been more appropriate....

Chris; I always liked Eubank myself, his fight V's Micheal Watson, I know the result was tragic, but that still rates as the best fight I have ever seen. TC; Yeh the fight is on here Sunday morning, should be a good one.

Eubank had attitude with a capital A. my dad used to always have a smile a mile wide on his face whenever he walked into the ring.

Smoking: Yeah that was absolutely great! Together with Tina Turner's "Simply the best". My god, I miss these moments.
Concerning Roy Jones jr.: Hmmm, I dunno. Darius Michaelchewski, the middle weight champion of the IBF (?). He wanted to fight Jones jr. for several years to reunited the 4 belts but hmmm, jones always withdrew..... BTW: who is Jones boxing this weekend and in which federation? IBF/WBC/WBO?

Roy Jones is fighting John Ruiz for the WBA version of the heavyweight title. Looks like it will be punch and run by Jones against a bumbling oaf who will be chasing shadows. I think Jones will win on a desision or get the fight stopped if he can cut up Ruiz enough.

My GF is on Vegas right now and she says the place is nuts for this fight. Darius won't fight in the USA, if he wants that belt he better come stateside or else. Roy actually offered Darius a fight In Europe, but money came up and the deal went south. As for Roy i saw him kick the out of some Jamaican here in indy. he is so small in person. Ruiz is gonna look like (I think Gatti) who put on all that weight over night and sent the guy to the hospital. Heh did anyone see that Vernon Forest fight, he got his ass kicked pretty bad i heard.

Roy did it!!!
Not only did he win he beat him every way possible. Roy didn't get a knock down, he just played it safe and just showed how speed can neutralize weight. Very good fight i will be taping the rerun on HBO!!!
With that nobody can say he is not "pound for pound" the best boxer. He took a hell of arisk and shined. the 2nd middleweight to ever win a heavyweight championship.

He took a hell of arisk and shined. the 2nd middleweight to ever win a heavyweight championship. I agree it was a good fight, however, just to put the record straight, he was the FIRST middleweight to ever win a heavyweight title and the 2nd (Michael Spinks was the first) lightheavyweight to win the heavyweight crown.

It must have been at least a year since their last match up!
Ahh- WWF's lady wrestler China vs Joey Butterfuco (OK I KNOW I spelt that wrong)... now that was an interesting match!

Danny- you could be correct but HBO was saying something about a guy who was a middle weight in like 1894 becoming the heavyweight champ. i cant remember his name.
interesting facts; 2 famous sports lines have come from a light heavy/ middle weight going for the heavyweight championship title fight. 1. the bigger they are the harder they fall 2. he can run, but he can't hide

Some Quotes from Iron MIke
On fighting Lennox Lewis
"Lennox Lewis, I'm coming for you man - My style is impetuous. My defence is impregnable. And I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children - Praise be to Allah!"
"My main objective is to be professional but to kill him."
On Evander Holyfield
"You got nothing coming, man. I'm going to enjoy this fight."
(After biting Holyfield) "This is my career. I have children to raise. I have to retaliate. He butted me. Look at me. My kids will be scared of me."
On Razor Ruddock
"You're sweet. I'm going to make sure you kiss me good with those big lips. I'm gonna make you my girlfriend."
Tyson's best bites
"How dare these boxers challenge me with their primitive skills? It makes me angry. They're just as good as dead."
"I'm on the Zoloft (medication) to keep from killing y'all."
"I really dig Hannibal. Hannibal had real guts. He rode elephants into Cartilage."
"I just want them to keep bringing guys on and I'm going to strip them of their health. I bring pain, a lot of pain."
"I guess I'm gonna fade into Bolivian."
"I'm not Mother Teresa. But I'm also not Charles Manson!"
"I try to catch him right on the tip of the nose, because I try to push the bone into the brain."
"There are nine million people who see me in the ring and hate my guts. Most of them are white. That's okay. Just spell my name right."
And remember, he said all that with a lisp.
