I just read, and was quite sad about it. Patrick Roy announced his retirement from hockey today. I'll miss his attitude and his fighting spirit. As the report read, a whole generation of canadians grew up idolizing him. I just never thought this day would come, seems like yesterday that I was 10 years old and attempting the butterfly because I had seen him do it the previous night. When Gretzky retired I didn't care...he was the one my parents admired, but Patrick's retirement saddens me, although he's left a legacy of fucking amazing french-canadian goalies, he was and will always be the best and things have changed forever. Thanks for the memories

Vyacheslav Tretiek- USSR red army, never played in the NHL Although I can agree that Roy, and particularly Tretiak qualify as al time great goalies, I wouldn't limit my choice to those two. Dominik Hasek certainly springs to mind, and then there has been loads of great Swedish goalies. Actually when it comes to the World Cup, Sweden is the team that most consistently has top goalies. But if I have give just one name (no offense Dani, and it is of a different period than Roy), it has to be Tretiak.
