The indianapolis motor speedway has a ton of information on the walls. I have seen diagrams and stuff like that. It basically looks like a steel painted wall that has foam behind it that is located in the corners where the impacts from wrecks are

I have been reading a bit about these walls, and they seem like a good idea. However, there is one thing that really concerns me.
I saw a picture the other day in a magazine of one of the walls after a crash. Since they deform, it left a big "dent" in the wall. That may be okay during practice, but what if that happens during the race? What do they do, stop the race to replace the dented piece? If not, I hate to see what would happen if another car crashes in to the dent. Seems to me like that would make the accident a lot more serious then.
With the concrete walls, cars tend to slide since the surface is smooth and does not get out of shape. But if a car hits one of the dents at high speed, it might become airborne, or bounce of at a strange angle.
I gues we will see, but I am not convinced.
