Marlboro to sponsor Peugeot. Goodbye Mitsubishi, hello Peugeot
Marlboro to sponsor Peugeot. According to reports it appears as if Mitsubishi Ralliart will be losing their sponsor Marlboro at the end of the season. Instead Philip Morris' tobacco brand is expected to switch its sponsorship across to the Peugeot Sport team.
The French manufacturer, who is currently leading the standings in the World Rally Championship, is being tipped as the favourites ahead of Ford and Citroen to secure Marlboro as a sponsor in what is believed to be one of the biggest sponsorship deals in the sport. At present Mitsubishi, who have carried the colours of Marlboro since 1999, are believed to receive roughly US$2 million per year, however it is thought that is likely to increase for the Peugeot deal.
Although nothing has been confirmed or denied yet by Marlboro, Peugeot or Mitsubishi, reports from Autosport indicate that an announcement concerning the deal is expected some time tomorrow (Wednesday).
