Tomas Enge has lost his F3000 championship after being stripped of his win at the Hungarian round of the series, and has received a suspended 12-month ban from racing.
After a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Paris today (Tuesday), it was decided that Enge should lose the 10 points he received for winning the race at the Hungaroring, where he failed a drugs test taken during the meet.
The council studied the medical reports regarding the samples taken at Hungary, and listened to the case put forward by Enge, who denied taking the cannabis found in the test.
Should Enge fail another random drug test over the next 12 months, he will be suspended from racing for a year.
Enge's exclusion from the Hungarian race means that Super Nova's Sebastien Bourdais inherits the F3000 championship.
That is really stupid...

Enge should get two championships for having THC in his system, because there is no way in hell it was going to make him faster.

I agree with da silva...how the hell could that have made him faster? Unless it was juded that a)Enge was a danger to others because he was possibly under the influence while driving. b)Canabis helped him deal with stress.
Ok, let me explain what I mean with b). The day before the big race, every body was nervous. No one could fine their sleep, turning over in their bad, thinking of what ifs...Except Enge, who rolled a big fat one, slept a sound ten hours, woke up fresh and ready and whopped every body's butt.
Any way, I think that unless Enge drove high, that penalty is real bull shit.

Agreed- it probably didn't help him win....
but geeez how dumb do you have to be?
Knowing you could win the championship- and knowing there will be drug tests- and yet you still blow it all by getting high.
LOL- is pot really worth ruining your career over?
What a dumb ass!
Reminds me of Jody Scheckter's son- he had a promising career as a mediocre F1 driver ahead of him- and he blew it by getting caught picking up a prostitute!
Where is he now? IRL, or some other reject series isn't he?

T Scheckter is in another series... and I think it might just be IRL.
T Enge's case is just sad....
He should take heart from another case, recently in the Winter Olympics -- snowboarding, I believe, when our boy Ross Rebagliati waas found to be in possession of a trace amount of THC in his bloodstream.... must have been a "contact" thing from that stoner party he was at in Whistler a couple of months before.... ;D

I've asked the question before on how cannabis enhances performance because I just can't see it happening.
But, Srrh, the point is: Enge knew the rules, he broke them, and he got caught. Sucks to be him. The penalty is NOT bullshit. The rules are clearly stated.

Cine,
Ross got his freaking medal back, plus a juicy contract with "Roots"...Enge looks screwed.
Aren't there "cleansers " on the market? Tea or something?
Too bad. He would have been sponsord by Orange and High Times in F1...groovy.lol
