3 years today - my hero went to race with Ayrton, Jimmy, Ronnie, Gilles and the others. I still remember our talk. Thank you for the memories. Your smile lives on 99.

A friend of mine gave me one of his home videos to watch the other day.It was of his trip to Fontana in 1999. My friend was in amongst the drivers in pit lane before the start of the race.We all know how "open" CART is. Greg has his fingers bandaged after they were injured in an accident in the paddock. Some guy wasn't looking where he was going & knocked Greg off his motorscooter. A lot of the other drivers were gathered around Greg, concerned about his injury.Greg says "It only hurts when it touches the side of the tub."(monocoque)Nothing was going to stop him from racing. My friend was chatting to Greg before the start. All the American flags were @ half mast & there was a ceremony after the race. On the side of the Team Player's transporter, someone has written in black marker pen "Canada will miss you". There is a women sitting outside the Player's transporter crying her eyes out.One of the Player's pit crew puts his hand on her shoulder to comfort her. JPM & Natalia went to visit Greg's family after the race. Hard to watch that video without getting a lump in your throat & a tear in your eye. RIP Greg.Sadly missed. We also lost Gonzalo Rodriguez @ Laguna Seca that year.Gonzalo was driving for Penske.

I was at the race where Gonzalo died. Very sad weekend too indeed.
After Gonzalo died, Greg said that if he had to go, he wanted to go racing. Some comfort here...

I remember watching Greg win @ Belle Isle in Detroit.
The Pacwest guys were running 1-2,Greg was in 3rd.The Pacwest guys were running a tight fuel strategy,it was going to be touch & go if they were going to make it to the finish without a splash & go.A pace car came out for an incident & bunched the field up,but they were going to go green for a lap or two before the chequered.
Both Pacwest guys ended up running out of fuel on the last lap & Greg took the win.Greg's dad was"over the moon"!!!
