Road America back on Mario Andretti brokers agreement to save race Champ Cars will race at Road America this year
The Champ Car World Series will race at the famous Road America circuit this year, after series organiser CART and circuit officials reached an agreement to reinstate the track on this year's calendar.
In March, CART cancelled the race it was due to stage at Road America this year after it failed to resolve a row with the circuit's owners over unpaid sanctioning fees. Road America in turn filed a counter-suit in an attempt to save the race. However, talks brokered by motorsports legend Mario Andretti has led to both sides agreeing to cease legal action.
"Road America has always been one of the premier tracks in the United States and is probably the most popular venue among the drivers on the CART Champ Car circuit," said Andretti. "It was a track that we needed to have on our schedule to maintain the series' standing as the truest challenge in open-wheel racing."
The race on the 4.048-mile circuit will be held on August 3 and will now be known as the 'Mario Andretti Grand Prix of Road America' in recognition of the former driver's efforts to save the race.
"I must thank Mario Andretti for his tireless efforts toward getting Road America back on our schedule," said CART boss Chris Pook. "It is great to see that he has the same level of passion for the heritage of CART Champ Car racing that he did when he was behind the wheel."

PT stated that all the manufacturers were using it. Just shows that if they had it in CART you know they had it in F1.
I actually love the new CART formula. Throttle control is something a real driver should know.
Why the hell is the Race on on Monday?? STUPID!

Yeah, i really dont understand why they are making the race on monday. Maybe because its in Britain and the Brits wont want to go out and watch the cart race because they will be watching the F1 grand prix.

F1 probably has something to do with it. Also Monday is a bank holiday in England, and so people are off work then too.

Sure da Silva, but I would assume that the reason for doing a race in Europe is to gain more European fans. If they hold the race on the same day as an F1 race, guess what the Europeans will be watching.....

I'm not mad at the messenger. Still can't believe they would alienate their core business at this point in time.

;D Way to go Sebastien !!!! Reigning F3000 Champion Sebastien Bourdais won the fourth round of the CART series today at Brands Hatch, England. The French rookie, who tested in F1 for Renault last year took the lead from Paul Tracy during the first round of pit stops and never looked back. Tracy, who was gunning for his fourth straight win in the series, retired when the Ford engine in the back of his car blew up. Bourdais' team mate, former Williams tester and F1 hopeful Bruno Junqueira finished second for Newman-Haas Racing. Former BAR Honda test driver Darren Manning finished tenth but could have been higher had he not had an excursion through a gravel trap on cold tyres following a pit stop. Another former BAR tester, Patrick Lemarie finished just behind Manning - the Frenchman driving for Craig Pollock's CART team. Former F1 driver Alex Yoong ran reasonably strongly in the early part of the race until he crashed out at around half race distance. CFF

CART pulls out of Open Wheel Summit
Championship Auto Racing Teams officials spoke loudly with their silence Tuesday. Unclear, however, is exactly what they were not saying.
At the last minute, CART president Chris Pook pulled chief operating officer David Clare and vice president of operations John Lopes from panel discussions at the second Open Wheel Racing Summit at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
CART participated in the summit last year. With several of its constituents and business partners, including Bridgestone and Ford, on hand this year, the summit provided a forum for Indianapolis-based CART to raise its profile during a month otherwise dominated by the rival Indy Racing League.
Amid a smokescreen from CART that it pulled out for political reasons, speculation arose that the Pook-Bernie Ecclestone talks had picked up again and the Formula One boss could be getting closer to making a decision on buying CART. Pook was in Europe on Tuesday.
That would explain why CART didn't want its high-ranking officials at a public forum where dicey questions could arise. As a public company, officials would be subject to legal proceedings by lying, or subject to Pook's wrath by telling the truth if indeed negotiations are at a delicate stage.
