3 dead in West Virginia. Killed by sniper fire. All 3 killings have been linked to the same gun. Sadly, it all begins again! Officials were worried after the last mass sniper murderer that we would get copy-cat killers. 1 year later- the precendece has been set... here is copy-cat number 1! Hope they catch the bastard soon... sounds like they have a link- a heavy man in a dark pickup truck. - can't be too many of them in West Virginia! Here is a link... any news source covering the US should have a link though: www.msnbc.com/news/952949.asp

Actually, the media has been rather tame on this one... For this I congratulate them!

I had an idea once and I went as far as to send it to all the news channels.
Right after one of the highschool shootings it occured to me that these kids were obviously pretty messed up (duh), but one of the reasons they went ahead and did it was to become famous and appear on every news channel and every news paper in the nation.
Ok, the idea is its a bit far-fetched and silly...
What if every major news channel and newspaper made a pact to limit the reporting made on all future incidents. They would all have to agree that nobody would show images of the killers and print their names. I bet the next kids considering killing their classmates would probably reconsider if they knew that they would be anonymous to the world and would not become famous.
Like I said, its a silly idea, but it would definitely work in some cases.

I don't think that's a silly idea at all, hroark. In fact, I totally agree. Certainly, I'm not saying that EVERY act of school violence would be stopped, but certainly the de-glorification of such things could dissuade a few. If it could stop one person, that would be enough. It is "believed" (I should say "reported although not confirmed") that the Columbine killers got their ideas from a teenager in Germany who was planning on attempting the same thing. He was caught beforehand, if memory serves me. Wyc: You know you're right. I'm amazed that the media isn't in a tizzy over this thing. It really hasn't picked up steam (yet ). I guess the blackout, the Iraq war, and California have 'em busy.
