www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/07/15/1058034977622.htmlN. Korea has threatened to use nuclear force against Australia if Australia takes part in detaining any Korean ships suspected of carrying WMD. First thought: Whoa- One nuke from N.Korea on Aussie soil- and N.Korea gets hit by so many western nukes- that UFOs will use N.Korea as a night light when searching for anal-probe victims. 2nd Thought- OK, N.Korea is probably bluffing- but N.Korea seems by far the most hostile rogue nation out there. Much more of a threat than Iraq. Of course war with N.Korea would mean casualties... which is not good for reelection... probably the only reason Bush chose to target Iraq rather than N.K. - but war with N.K. seems inevitable at some point in the future. They are going to push their luck with some country- maybe Australia- and the world will be dragged into war again. N.K appears to be flaunting their defiance of international law- and human decency. They are making a stand saying- we are sovereign- to hell with the rest of you- we'll nuke who we want- supply who we want... WHEN we want!

This is type of black mail has always worked for N.Korea...so why stop now?
BUT I am pretty sure the N.Korean leaders are not stupid enough to USE nukes. It's a bluff and defense inssurance...
So my suggestion to Australians is to dump the iodine pills into the ocean and open a beer.
Either way, as Wyc. said if N.Korea shoots a nuke, that's the last thing they'll ever shoot. That's why I don't think they would....

And if they shoot a nuke, you may as well enjoy one last beer before it hits you.....

Srrh said…. “So my suggestion to Australians is to dump the iodine pills into the ocean and open a beer.” Hell, even though I’m no longer in Australia I’ll take that advice…. There, that's all 6 down....

Nuclear weapons work under two circumstances:
1. Unilaterally.... US vs. Japan 2. Anonymously... which is the alQueda threat. If you don't know where it came from, or who to hit back, you're hamstrung.
Otherwise it is a suicide pill. If a nuclear weapon is used somewhere, the traceback from the isotope composition will finger the culprit -- at least the supplier-- and thats where it will get interesting.

Unfortunately, nukes are also seen as the best deterrant, so i would make a third point to add to your list.
3. Not used but threatened- US vs USSR
Surely we would have seen open war were nuclear weapons not such a prominent proponent in each sides arsenal.
But then, you refer to the actual use... and i say that under any circumstances using such weapons is a loss to all.

BTW,
If they wanted to hit Australia, sure, major cities are always the way to go if you want civilian deaths….
But more realistically they would target the Pine Gap or Jindalee “secret” US radar bases out in the deserts that from Australia’s given strategic geological location play a major role in the US’s global defence systems.
Ummm, on Nuke’s, they are just plain bad, a deterrent or not it does not justify a country to continually possess more than 25,000 warheads or enough to destroy the world 2 times over…. If nukes are a deterrent then it must also be that chemical and biological weapons are a good deterrent, both are WMD in my veiw. I’ll use the US as an example here as it has only just approved to destroy a stockpile of over 2,500 tons of this vial chemical shit?
Though the question must remain, how many more stockpiles of these types of weapons are there in the US? (Will they have to provide proof of there destruction to the UN or face sanctions? LOL, not with over 25,000 nukes they won’t)
My reasoning is, if they haven’t been allowed to use them for so so long, why on earth did they continue to research them and then stockpile them in to the thousands of tons… (I can understand the research, just not the stockpiling)
Something is defiantly wrong somewhere…
(DeadCat)
PS, Maybe the US kept the thousands of tons of chemical and biological weapons to counter a chemical or biological weapon attack… as apposed to just nuking them with one of there 25,000 nuclear warheads…

DC- you think that is bad, my buddy is at Crane MiL base in western INdiana. What is there? The largest stockpile of VX poison gas in the WORLD!!!! This fool has to guard that shit as they destroy it. They got alarms setup all around the area to warn the citizens if a spill occurs.
However, since crane is in the whitest area of indiana, an arab running around would be like a white man at the apollo theatre so we dont have to worry much. They only people that get busted a deer hunters, and now since Crane has a shoot first ask questions later policy the hunters are not coming around.

TC,
Not sure on the best way to say this, but in a nutshell, travel is the best education… (and I’m not talking about cruise liners here)
When we lived in Sydney so many people spoke so many languages and there where so many people from different cultures intertwined into a single society. Sure, of course in the news they singled out examples of racial prejudice; but in the general scene (at least compared to Europe) Sydney as a city is a very socially forgiving sociaty.
We’ve also both found Germany to be very accepting to us both, however, not to the standards to Sydney. (to go into details could seem indifferent)
Anyway, all I can say to all the “whities” at “Crane Military Base”; get a life damn it, the world is not flat…..

North Korea have nothing to gain by attacking Australia... Maybe just jealousy coz we enjoy the best lifestyle, have the best looking woman and could kick their ass at cricket...or whatever they play. Seriously, a lot of hot air being blown off the penninsula..South Korea and Japan are the ones to worry... We are too preoccupied with the World Cup...
