Ever wondered why in all sci-fi movies involving alians from far away galaxies that come to visit the earth, they study our habits and then they end up attacking and wanting to blow up America??
I mean you could hardly have a more neutral person could you? An alien, that doesnt know anything about our plant. He arrives, studies us for a while and then almost exclusively wants to blow up/attack America.
Not Iraq, or North Korea or or any other axis of evil. He wants to blow up America. Now why is that?? What is it about America that most aliens find offensive? Are they onto something that the rest of us are two afraid to say out loud?
I mean why not blow up Sierra Leonne?? Is it that the aliens dont know where Sierra Leonne is? I find it hard to believe they could come millions of light years and find the earth but then get stuck trying to find Sierra Leonne?? I dont think so!
So what gives? Joking aside, it does reveal a lot about the American state of mind. Sci-fi movies, a metaphor for the American mind. I think yes

independence day had the aliens attacking other countries as well. even india got mentioned. of course the good guys will alwaye be the americans. *shrug* but most of these movies are made in america, so can't really blame them.
besides the movies are made primarily with the american audience in mind.

jeje Smokingun beat me to the punch Rick I just think it talks to the marketing of the film. Now if it was made primarily for distribution in Sierra Leonne , then I can see the aliens landing there. Can you think of any British Scfi movies based in the States? Hey how about Aussie films? Does Bollywood make Scifi musicals err films? just a joke.

Well- according to the old Godzilla movies (which occasionally involved aliens) - all aliens look like asians (there are some pretty hot alien chicks BTW!! LOL)... Whats more- Aliens in Godzilla flicks all want to take over the monsters to destroy Tokyo!!! Whatsmore- in Doctor Who- the aliens all had British accents and wanted to attack Britain... So you see- aliens don't just hate America- they hate capitalism in general. LOL - see and you thought Srrh was human... BTW- "Signs" had the aliens attacking India too! So its not just America aliens hate- add Japan, Britain and India to the list!

And CE3K was a gloal phenomena, at least in the opening act.... The Japanes post-WWII scifi movies were all about Nuclear Warfare angst. The original Star Trek TV series and The Next Generation both featured captains of the Enterprise who were non-Americans. JTK was a Canadian... well, in real life, anyway, and JLP was French... .... One of the only pseudoAmericans was Johnathan Frakes' character -- commander Riker, who was always (written in mstakenly) from 'Alaska', but was in fact from the Yukon territory, I think, and was therefore deliberately cast as Canadian.... mistaken for an American. Yeah, I thought it was weird, too. The reason for this is that there are A LOT of expatriate Canadians writing in Hollywood sneaking in these little 'inside' jokes about the relationship between us as neighbours. Really good scifi doesn't work at all if there isn't a central social commentary involved... and it must be relevant to the current time. For instance, '1984' works even better today... because if it isn't actually true now, I don't know how much further it would have to be pushed... and I'm referring specifically to the Iraq campaign. ROFLMAO...I apologise for bringing this one back up but I have to laugh at Wyc! Hey, you took the words right out of my mouth. As soon as I read rick's original thread, I knew I was going to type a ONE line reply: "Because the Aliens got tired of blowing up Tokyo!" LOL, Godzilla movies were my favorite monster movies when I was a kid...crack me up. I remember David Letterman jazzed a Tourist from Japan one night on his show. The poor guy didn't have much of a clue what Dave was saying, but Dave brought him up on stage and let him sit in the guest chair! It was crazy & it obviously made the guy's day, but Dave's first question was: "Where are you from?" and the guy replied: "Tokyo!" Dave laughed and asked "Are you tired of having to always rebuild your city?" The poor guy was puzzled and then Dave referred to Godzilla always tearing Tokyo down while catching & beating up the Alien Monsters that come to Earth. Everyone in the building was busting a gut laughing, but the guy sat in the chair (obviously not getting the joke), but he just smiled and laughed along with Dave. He was a Good Sport. Oh well, enough rambling...(you didn't really believe me when I said I was going to give a ONE line reply, did you?) LOL, RacerX
