Currently how FPOTM timing works is this:
When you click the "Post" button, it briefly reloads the form- grabs the date, grabs the next available Post #... then writes to the database your time and post #.
The problem is- every once in a while the server slows to a crawl... so the time / post # can get switched.
What I propose to change is make the timing more sensitive (to the milisecond rather than the second)... to take the time when you click "Post" rather than when the page redirects- and to order the finnishers by how close they were to the correct time (rather than post #).
Just want to get approval from FPOTM members before proceeding... (see if you have any other suggestions too)

I wonder, tho , how a crawling server could tell milisecs from secs...

I wonder, tho , how a crawling server could tell milisecs from secs... The PC has a built in clock. I read milisecs from the clock rather than secs! This will require some code change- the language that is used to interact with the database is not the same language that is used to display the screen... The language that is used to interact with the database can only retrieve time to the second... I have to use the display language to grab the time- and somehow pass it over to the database language... LOL Not easy- but accomplishable with a few hours work!

I have no problem with any change, as long as it doesn't create a headache and overload for you.
If OT doesn't show up anytime soon, let's say I speak for Dream Power.

i'm all for it Wycco but i must say bringing in new rules 5 races into the season does seem a little bit like amateur hour... seems everytime we find a problem there is a kneejerk reaction to it rather than coming up with revised sets of rules for the following season. Are we going to keep changing the rules at half time?

PK...
This isn't so much of a new rule- just new way of making sure the code runs right...
But I have no problem waiting until the end of the season to change the code...
I'm actually working on another project at the moment (which I expect will take me a couple of months to finnish based on the little time I've had available to work on it)
The only problem is: at the start of the next season of FPOTM I shall have a newborn- and I expect, much less freetime.

sorry Wycco but i think there is one more problem that need adressing if we are going to follow rules 3.4 and 3.7 for testing. Some of us are unable to conduct the testing within the first hour of the test day and as such miss out on the 'precise' aspect of the indication that you have refered to in your advoacating these rule changes. As a result the timing after the first hour is the same as any other day and changes nothing in terms of feedback to the team and as such gives no better indication than previously. Is there anyway if the 2nd last day of the month is going to be qualifying that we could have the second counter running all day so as to be fairer to all teams and drivers?

OK fixed... although the secs gets so high I may fix it show mins and secs if I get time!
BTW... you only get secs all day on the 2nd to last day of the month...
The 15th and 1st will show secs up until 100 minutes have passed.
