hmmm beer, I have a confession... I don't like it all that much! the only kind I will drink here is carling, which is the worst beer in the history of the world, but also the cheapest. At £1 a pint at my local pub, who would really have anything else? Personally I prefer cider. Good old scrumpy Jack of course! oh dear, i'm gonna run before you all emerge with pitchforks!

I just tried to post a reply to Dani's blasphemous post, but my outrage resulted in me being a little too hasty and accidentally erasing the post. So here goes again... SHAME ON YOU DANI. How could you say such a thing? I nominate that Wycco removes you from Shamu forever (or at least until you repent, and say that beer is nothing less than the best invention humankind has ever thought of).

It may even be true that "humankind" is the best invention that BEER invented.... its a team-thing to brew enough beer --- so there is a theory that our early ancestors needed to band together to be able to produce a numer of things... beer included....hence beer is a civilizing factor.

coupla faves: at home: Cascade and James Boags premium are the best. we heap shit on tasmanians but damn they have good water down there....Really powerful hops taste, very smooth and crisp. Cascade bought out a premium light and it is fantastic - bout 2.5% alc vol and it tastes better than most of our generic heavy beers...(they dont like drink drivers very much down here and its the only way one gets by the limit) abroad: Tennants Super from scotland - 9.5 % rocket fuel - drop an ounce of vodka in the top and blast off - tastiest beer yet Tiger beer - from malaysia/singas Asahi - from japan, very dry and crisp - perfect hot weather brew Caffreys - instead of Guiness - creamy and full flavoured Chimey from belgium...really rich, almost burnt aroma but bloody good with a steak, drank from a wine balloon... and honourable mention to old fart ale - gimmicky, pint size bottle...rare as hell - fucking classic! spose i better

You can revoke me too then - me not like beer AT ALL!!! And I won't change my mind. no no no... BUT I don't like Ferrari either. Now that I'm sure will get me a majority of the votes to stay...

CFF... my post on this topic of March 26th said exactly that. BTW, I was in Calgary just before Easter for a funeral in the family... so no time was available. Besides I expected the old girl to rise again on the Sunday.... So hopefully when this bloody snow decides to go... when will that be?.... we will probably be dropping back down to your city a few more times this spring. Depends on the family schedule as to whether I'm free to meet anyone or take a few laps at the local kart track... gotta get some Shamu points going this season, because RacerX will be home free this year without me to kick his behind at Indy again.... ....steady on with the old farts ale....
I remember a drop we had in OZ called "DA" - in a 750ml bottle (just over a pint) - it was supposed to be known as "Dinner Ale" - got more colloquially called - "Dog's Arse".

American beers are like making love in a canoe: it's fucking close to water!!!
My favs depend on the food and occasion:
My all time favorite beer is the very belgium Rodenback Alexander. Duvel is good but a bit strong for long evenings. At UCL we use to have "Bush Beer Parties"...it's a belgian beer: 12% !!! It kills !!!
Otherwise...
Double Diamond with Indian food. Guinness in a brit. pub. Red or Green Sleeman on a hot day (with a lime in it) Scotch and Poddigton in the winter. Kaiser in Brazil. Indio while in Mex.
I never had beer with Sushi, always Sake... and white wine a few times....
Srrhgf likes Killkenny (you bastard!)
In general though, if nothing is available, I'll try the ale of the local micro-brewery. I had one made out with Marple water a few weeks ago...it was nice and "smoky"...a bit sweet maybe...

I figured this was the best thread to say hello to all. My story while I was away is long and happy and sad and f**ked up all rolled into one. But with all that's been going on, beer has been a constant. Truth be told, Labatts in a can for everyday stuff. But we have a pub here in Rochester NY with 215 beers on tap. We're there every Thursday, (Board of Director's Meeting) and anything goes. Beer is Beer, with many things to enjoy and savor. To my friends, I'll be back as much as possible, looking for advice and distraction in the next couple of weeks. I know my forum contribution limits, and try to not embarass myself too much, but with all that's going on, I do find myself coming to you for solace and insight. Best wishes to you all, and I'll talk to you all soon. Most heartily, <klinck> NC ;D
