As I was reading (and posting) on one of the threads over in the politiks section, I realized we have never actually gotten around to discussing one of the most important things in life.....beer! We aer always going on about beer in Shamu, sharing the occasional cold one. We had Guinnes become the official beer of Shamu through the weakest link etc., but we have never discussed it in real detail. So, here's a thread, conveniently located under the food section (I know, there should actually be an exclusive section for beer given its importance!). What's your favouiite beer? Which beers do you usually drink? Do you drink on a regular basis (more than one an hour?) etc.. Reveal all here! As to my personal favourite, it's a bit difficult to really give just one. It depends on the occasion, if I'm drinking it with food, if it's winter or summer, and who I'm drinking with.. For a nice cold one when I'm thirsty, and together with sushi, I like an Asahi Super Dry. Also, just for thirst, a Corona with a slice of lime goes down well too (but I'm sure there are better similar Mexican beers, it's just that Corona is the most widely marketed one...Dos Equis maybe?) As mentioned under politiks, I enjoy the occasional Sam Adams, and for sure, if I'm in a pub a Guiness is fine. There are many others, and so I suppose it is fair to say I simply like beer. Not too fond of Heineken and the like though....

Actually I hardly ever drink anything since I got married... But my beer of choice is definately Bodingtons! Failing to find Bodingtons I would go for Guiness or Bass (both fairly easy to find) depending on if I want something heavy or not. Not easy to find- but the best American beer I've had is Mississippi mud!

Haha, and I just added to the thread in the Politiks section. I can't believe we didn't start this sooner! We get Sol and Tecate in addition to Corona, but Corona is the most popular. And I couldn't agree more that it very refreshing with a slice of lime on a hot summers day. Murphy's is better than Guiness. Love Boddies like Wick............The Cream of Manchester. My fave micro from these parts is Creemore, like a mild ale, good stuff. Of course there are the two giants Labatts and Molson, which I will drink if they are free. LOL.

Too bad that Labatts is really Belgian beer now that its owned by Interbrew. They also own the local license to produce the Guinness Extra Stout in bottles, but you can still get the draft with the widget in the cans direct from Ireland. The other pint I enjoy is Double Diamond, mostly for nostalgic reasons -- first really sprucy pub ale I was exposed to while in Britain. Looks like I'll have to locate and try out the "Murphy's"... and incidentally that would be a name in the family tree. My wife prefers Granville Island Lager (microbrewery in Vancouver), while I can go for their English Bay Pale Ale. Like Henrik, it depends on the circumstances... Sapporo Silver with sushi if I'm not having sake -- which incidentally is not wine -- it is "brewed", so it actually is a form of beer -- at least it is taxed like beer! Kingfisher or Raj with curry. Kronenburg with Choucroute Alsace. Miller Lite with a Black Forest Ham and Gruyere on rye bread with caraway. Takes me back to a day in Palos Verdes. Carlsberg Hof with wiener polser. or Tuborg Gr on. We used to drink a lot of Carlsberg lite when we lived in Toronto... but can't get it in Alberta. cine_... PS I was going to comment on Central American brews... I have a few pals who really like dos Equis and Tecate, etc.... but I haven't been able to really culture a preference... I think the local flavour just doesn't translate well, and its best enjoyed in country of origin, like a lot of things. I know bartenders whose take on the "lime in the neck" is that its just to "keep the flies out"! One of my biggest disappointments travelling in the Caribbean a few years ago was that the cruise line stocked almost strictly American beers aboard... and zero local... no Carib, or Red Stripe... . I thought it really underestimated the clientele.

bare in mind I just became 21... so I haven't had much experience with beers in my life... jejeje I have to say that me like Guiness, like Henrik, and now that I scroll down.. I see that it is actually the official beer of Shamu. talking about mexico... corona's alright, simply alright. whereas I dislike tecate. However, Negrita Modelo is in my top 3 favorite beers. If you come across with it I recomend it... not like you'll take advice from an amateur in the subject, but its nice w/ and w/out food. that's my post.

As i said in the other thread- Murpheys over guiness, hands down Duvel is fruity and quite nice on a sunday, late afternoon outside.(but not a beer you can drink too much of, nice and relaxing if drunken slowly) Kilkenny is a nice solid beer- a good hearty beer to drink with the lads. The liquor laws in NZ allow you to legally drink at 18- so i've had a relatively short amount of time to hone my tastes legally, but my dad has brewed for years and i have allways liked beer, so i guess i can cast my judgement with a certain degree of conviction.... Chhers...

I'm not too clued up on foreign beers, being the untravelled git that I am, although I do enjoy a Guinness, Kilkenny or Boddington's. Stella Artois is pretty nice too. As far as SA beers go, I'm not sure whether ElSid and Raptor will agree with me, but I like Black Label the most (it says "America's Lusty, Lively Beer" on the label, but nobody I know from the States has even heard of it)... otherwise I stick to products from Namibian Breweries (especially Windhoek Export) because, unlike SA Breweries, they adhere to the Reinheidsgebot(d?) and don't add any other crap to their products. Interestingly, SAB is now the world's third (or is it fifth) largest brewery after having bought out Miller... Don't get me started on US beers though, BLECH! Bud, Miller, Coors etc, are like horse piss.

Tsing Tao- is a german beer. When the germans were over in China causing hell, they built a beer factory. Well the germans were beat and the factory stayed. The Chinease took over kept the original formulation, and sell it a chinease beer when if fact it was german.
Dos Equis XX is german made too.

Beer!!!
One of my favourite drinks in life. As Henrik and some other said before it depends on the situation which type of beer I prefer.
Dancing at nite and really sweating much I like to have Miller Lite cause it tastes a bit like water but a bit better.
With Becks I have a special realtionship. As I'm born only one hour western of Bremen (the city of Becks) it's some kind like my home-beer. I like it very much and when in summer I sit with my friends in a cafe or club and we're having a nice evening I like an ice-cold Becks to relax.
In my favorite club at home I pledge for Warsteiner although it's regarded in Germany as a women's beer but hell, who cares, I like it nevertheless...
With my dad I prefer also a Budweiser or a simple normal German beer.
In an Irish-pub I prefer a Cider clearly over a Stout.
Ok, that were my five pence.

The finest beer in the world is Coopers Pale Ale. Everything else is a compromise. For our American friends this beer is available in selected fine establishments in Texas. It may be available in other states but I dont know for sure.
My wife, Nadine drinks VB. Why?? Because she has a cast iron stomach. I call it green death (it comes in a breen can).
The worst kept secret. No Australians actually drink Fosters. We only export the stuff, we would never actually drinlk it.

I'm happy because today we finally got the beer delivered for the taps we have in the bar at the track! Two beers available. One is Bel, a Belgian regular blonde beer that is okay, and the other is Wittkop, another Belgian but a bière blanche..very good! Maybe it's time I made my way back to MY bar!!
