I saw them this week end during the MTL jazz fest...AMAZING !!! Just imagine... A classical pianist, A 12 string Argentinian guitar player, a violinist, an argentinian tango accordeon player, a singer + 2 DJ's...one of which reads Castro and Che speeches...All of them dressed in complete 60's black suits (you know, with the BIG tie knot) and the chicks in smooth blck dresses... All this, while playing videos of tango dancers and police brutality... Like Manu Chao with an phat beat and a groovy attitude !! www.gotanproject.comEl Revencha del Tango....music to be murdered by.... Srrh

I saw it, and went to Havanna for 2 weeks after that with srrhgf...We thought it was so good it actually MADE us go there!! Mohitos and cuban jazz...hmmm...no wonder Fidel doesn't want to leave.... As for the Gotan Project, I strongly suggest to all of you who don't use p2p (like kazza) to give it a try. Start with "Una musica brutal"....then run to the shop to buy the CD!! PS Our Spanish speaking freinds might enjoy it even more as the words of the songs/speeches are classics... Srrh PS of the PS: It sounds better loud...like most all good music

I've got "la revancha del tango" which includes "una musica brutal". I especially enjoy the cover of Zappa's "chunga's revenge".
Its the double disk release with the remix + extra enhanced CD.
I also get a kick out of "Propellerheads"... DecksandDrumsandRockandRoll.
Love the version of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but I'm a sucker for Bond themes.

History Repeating (featuring Dame Shirley Bassey) is my favourite song in that album. She was the voice of the 'Goldfinger' and 'Diamonds are Forever' Bond themes.

Yeah, thats the one.
Wots yore favourite Bond theme? I've got a soft spot for Sheena Easton's "4 eyes only".
But Nancy Sinatra's "You Only Live Twice" is close. Running third... Carly Simon's "You're the Best...."

That's a tough choice!!!
They are all good in their own way. Funny how for a while popular bands got signed to make the new Bond theme, such as Aha, Duran Duran, U2 etc.
Actually, I think this could be decided in the weakest link! Best Bond theme, and also best Bond movie!!
I suppose I feel that Shirley Bassey really has the Bond sound, and although I didn't like it much at first, I now really like that Propellerhead's song "History Repeating" with Shirley.

Priorities.
I dont' listen to the radio much, and usually the first time I hear a new piece is if I'm working on a music video.
I like the sonic quality of recordings, and if I hear something, I really don't care how "old" it is... Miles' "Kind of Blue" was recorded in the 50's.
I've got a couple of Ray Montford's CDs... not much thematically, but really really well recorded and mixed. Same with Louise Taylor's material. Very crisp, clean, well staged entertainment.
I'm still waiting for the new collection of Patsy Cline tunes "Remembering Patsy" with performances by kd lang, Diana Krall, and others. You might say I'm "Crazy... crazy for feeling..... lonely...... crazy.... for feeling blue.... Thats why I go out walking, after midnight, searching for yew.
the very first vinyl I ever shelled out for was Led Zeppelin's #4 album... "Four Sticks (?)" a special "extra thick" pressing at the HMV shop on Oxford Street. I'm surprised that there is anything at all left in the grooves on that particular sheet of wax.
By far, the best-recorded vinyl pressing that I have ever heard was Ry Cooder's "Bop 'til You Drop". It was one of the first, if not THE first LP ever mastered in PCM digital. Funny, it doesn't sound all that rich on CD... but thats for another thread. \ Cine_...
