Gordon, Montoya in Days of Thunder II
Multiple-time NASCAR Winston Cup champion Jeff Gordon and former Indy 500 winner and current F1 star Juan Pablo Montoya recently held a joint press conference at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to announce that they will be sharing the bill in the upcoming film, Days of Thunder II: Tradin' Paint. To promote what will undoubtedly be an international box office smash, Gordon and Montoya swapped cars for a day and took a few fast laps around the infield road course at IMS.
Gordon is set to reprise Tom Cruise's 1990 not-quite-Oscar-nominated role as Cole Trickle, the young upstart NASCAR driver who learned that "rubbin' is racin'", and more importantly that you can win in Winston Cup with a car built in a barn by some crotchety old guy. As the film opens, we learn that Trickle's fancy Australian-born doctor wife (played once again by Nicole Kidman) is sick of hanging around places like Bristol and Dover for ten months of the year. She convinces Cole to join an upstart American F1 team building a car in a truck-stop bathroom, so she can visit glamorous locales like Monaco, Montreal, and of course Sydney, Australia.
