Well actually, the competitors complained about having to carrying oxygen tanks. Fortunately the governing bodies approved a major construction venture to lower the area by 3000 metres. When you get there you will notice that all the mountains, which SA was once known for, are all gone now. All in all just a very flat place these days. Yes, I've been told that the ski slopes were even better than those at Innsbruck. Nope, I never saw it with my own eyes. Maybe a good thing, though. Just imagine going to Phakisa and drinking Gluhwein the whole time when is just soooo much better.

Anyone else see yesterdays race?
It was great to see Sete Gibernau hold off Rossi to get the win for his late team mate Kato.

JWK,
I finally got around to watching the races last night.
That was indeed an emotional win for Sete, and well deserved. I felt sorry for Ui in the 125cc race as he too deserved to win, having led every lap and then finally losing out in the last one. But that is 125cc racing for you!
Oh, and good stuff from Bayliss! Was that fight with Rossi exciting or what!? Bayliss is one of those guys who will give it everything he's got, just like last year in SBK against Colin. What happened with Colin at the start there though?
All in all, good three races, and I'm happy that Randy (de Puniet) now has a bike for his talent, although Poggiali is looking to be this year's Melandri....

I only caught the last five or so laps of the 125, and you could see ui's(is that his full last name?) dissapointment when he came back onto the track after pushing too hard to regain his places and braking too late.
The scrap between Bayliss and Rossi was amazing! Bayliss was pushing beyond the limits of his bike and giving 110%. Amazing stuff!
Its great to see a field with 10 world champs(ex ands current) duking it out... there is garunteed action in every race. Plus the current champ is not handed every race on a plate
;D

Ui is indeed his full family name!!
The MotoGP series this year is really getting better. Last two years were a bit of a snooze with Rossi dominating. Sunday's last 10 laps from Rossi really showed what he is capable of. First his fight with Bayliss, then to make up all that ground to almost beat Sete. Actually as I watched the last lap I was wondering if he didn't actually let Sete win it, but that we will never know.
Hoping for more stuff from Bayliss though. He amazed me in the SBK, and I just wish Colin can get some speed in to the Aprilia so we can have a group of say Rossi, Biaggi, Bayliss, Edwards, Capirossi, Sete and maybe some of the Yamaha riders like Barros to fight for the win.

Actually as I watched the last lap I was wondering if he didn't actually let Sete win it, but that we will never know. hmm, i noticed the drop in pace as well... but i give the benefit of the doubt to rossi. Barros would be great to see with an improved bike under him, mixing it up with the Italian trio, and the other topcontenders... er top contenders. Not that he does too bad with his current ride! he held 5th position for a good while under considerable pressure from behind!

Hmmm, considerable pressure on Barros? That pressure came from Abe (who I rate on genious level on a good day!) who doesn't even have a regular ride! Somebody please give a proper bike to Abe!!!!

Indeed JWK!!! The funny thing is that I had really seen in Elias a future great, but recently he had begun to disappoint me. Actually as he was down in 8th, I was saying to Greg99 that he is not really doing anything these days. Then he decided to go for it....... Great stuff! Oh and did you see Capirossi slide that Ducati Bayliss gets his first podium. I'm sure there will be many more...

I started watching that race but had to go run some errands. The first 10 laps were still pretty exciting. I am sorry I missed the last 6 But Henrik, thanks for getting me into MotoGP. I'm loving it.

Oh and did you see Capirossi slide that Ducati Bayliss gets his first podium. I'm sure there will be many more... That was incredible bike control from Loris, spinning up the rear coming out of those medium speed corners, very spectacular! I wonder what his rear tyre would be like if he had have got to the end, surely he couldn't continue to ride the bike like that all the way to the end.

Actually Playlife, I am not sure the tyre would have been destroyed. Remember when McCoy started the sliding craze again. I believe it was two years ago (maybe three) in South Africa. He asked for a 16.5" rear tyre, as opposed the regular 17" all the others were using. On track he was sliding like a madman, and I remember thinking that he would never finish the race like that. Well he did, and kept sliding like that in the races to follow. Somehow, and I have not really been able to figure this out, the tyre is not getting shredded. Anyway, eventually all the other riders copied him and also switched to 16.5" tyres. It was in 2000, and here is a sample of McCoy doing his thing:
