Having seen the Ministry of Information building in Baghdad with massive damage, including a gaping hole in the side, but still standing. I suggest the mayor of new york adopts Iraqi Building Standards rather than the inferior standards that were applied to the WTC that collapsed in dramatic fashion, after suffering far less damage.

i watched a Doco on the WTC, and it was dangerous the way that was built. All of steel, no sprinkler sytems, and the structural aspects was more like"stitching" floors together.
Baghdad looks all concrete and stone. you just cant beat the old building materials. The pyramids, parthanon etc.. i dont expect to see glass ruins 200 years from now.

The ministry of Information is quite a stunning piece of architecture, even if it does have fire and smoke billowing from chasms because of all the bombs it has taken over the last two weeks. Its a pity that such wicked looking(take that literally if you want) buildings are being demolished. I fully expect to see glass ruins 200 years from now, except for the fact that they will be built 198 years from now

Danny Boy,
I just read an article yesterday, about the types of weapons used on SOME buildings in Iraq. It was during a congressional hearing, and they were trying to justify asking for more money to pay for the development of increasingly expensive "specialised weapons" such as thoughs used in Iraq.
It seems the building was hit with a couple of "specialised" weapons that are designed to intentionally take out an entire floor only, and leave the building standing. The weapon in question was recently developed, in only a years time, and specifically designed to be shot into caves.
They figured it would help with clean-up & rebuilding, if everything wasn't reduced to pure rubble.
It has a small explosion, to penetrate a wall or baracade, and then is designed to blow flammable molten stuff all over the place. Strictly to burn up people, and reduce the damage from a giant blast.
The weapon was designed for use (last year) in the caves where they thought Al Quaeda hide out in Afghanistan.
This might help explain why the building of information was still standing.
Later, Rx
P.S. I assume this was a serious post, right? I mean the WTC collapse surely wouldn't be something to belittle and make fun of so this has to be serious, right? Just curious...
