I just though id say that i think the way the pack of cards with Iraqi's on them has been embraced by the world turns my stomach a little. It has achieved in automatically villainizing without need for evidence all the people depicted in the pack to the world, regardless of whether or not they had any say, or indeed any part of any attrocities commited under Saddams rule. Today the four of spades was caught... ooooh, the four of spades, he must have been an evil man to place as the four of spades: Guilty. Lock him up and throw away the key. I am not defending any of the people depicted in the pack, but just voicing how easily the world media, and hence general opinion is being manipulated. Bah! excuse my bitterness

Gotta agree the pack of cards thing is pretty stupid. And since when did a pack of cards have 55 in a deck?

They should have had trading cards, five to a pack with some sticks of gum thrown in. Got to hand it to the Americans. They have got good PR. PS I wonder if the Iraqis under Saddam were innocent until proven guilty? These upper echelon types will get a trial by their own people. That's as It should be

Packs have 3 jokers, = 55.
Dumb idea, but its for the MTV,ADD generation who have no time to actually read the news. Just show me a pack of cards, that I can handle.

I believe that playing cards as used by the army in this case were around long before MTV, as far back as the war of secession in the 1860's.

ADD is something that children have through no fault of their own, and they are perfectly able to watch tv, and hey! even read whole books!!!!!!!

anyone can have add. Okay, i'm not talking specific medical condition here, i'm talking about the add generation. People who dont read papers, or news stories, who prefer it to be told to them in no more than 30 second stories. Any more and they'll flick over the tv.
Ever watched MTV? they will never stay focussed on one scene one shot for more than 5 seconds. The picture and shot changes continually..
MTV caters to ADD'ers and helps to perpetuate it

ok, now you are seriously starting to piss me off. ADD is a medical condition, that cannot be brought on, or made worse by television.
Do not use that to make flip, throw away comments in order to try and appear clever.

ADD is a medical condition is a medical condition that one is born with, but i think that the attention defecit disorder that who won is alluding to is just the way we can inadvertently condition ourselves, and is preventable.
Who won is simply saying that this conditioning is being applied to unwary subjects, and ultimately changing their attention span.
It comes down to this; who won is saying that the generation has an attention defecit disorder, not the disorder in question. A simple syntax error, im sure not meant to belittle those who through no fault of their own suffer from ADD.

Well, i don't watch mtv, and i can guarantee my son wouldn't watch it either, on account of it repeating the same stuff over and over, on some endless loop!
The same goes for news channels on tv nowadays, stories are repeated endlessly, I prefer to get news myself via the web, and I think that a lot of kids probably do the same.
Regarding the flashy camera techniques, I know what you mean about those, but its a trend, and its adults who use the techniques when they make the programmes, isn't it? In fact, its probably the reason why a lot of people turn over, as they dont like it!
I just think its a little unfair to write off a whole generation in this way, in an age when more people are getting a university education than ever before.
In any case - point taken about the ADD reference, though I disagree with it.

Who won, I think you need to cool it down with the ADD thing. You're lucky nobody in your family has it (apparently) but some of us don't have that luck.
I know sensitivity is not your strong point, but show some respect every once in a while.

It's got to be said, I wish there were more mothers like Ruby, instead of so many who just dump their kids in front of the TV as a means to keeping them quiet.

What are you lot talking about get off the ADD thing?
I'm not talking about people suffering from a medical condition. I said that above and then apparently i'm still pissing people off. Okay, lets not use the term ADD. Lets talk about dumbasses instead.
I'm talking about a generation of people who do nothing better than sit and watch garbage in front of the TV
I did not suggest anyone here does that. I didnt suggest you watch MTV ruby. But lets face it, university degrees are not what they once were, the average joe on the street has been dumbed down by bad schooling and tv that encourages people to have a short attention span. (its made by adults, who cares).
TV could be quite educational with the right programming, intelligent debate or whatever, but fact is most people today do not care to read, or watch the right programming.
The Iraq pack of cards is a good example of tailoring the message to the audience because the audience would never bother to read an article on the people involved, merely understanding who is the 8 of spades will do.
It is self perpetuating, the message gets dumbed down so the recipients need do less to investigate, and the circle continues.

Heh i think the pack of cards idea was good. These people are not being made villians, they are just wanted for questioning. With 55 people wanted it would be nuts to put 55 pics up and hope someone sees them. With hte deck of cards, soldiers, and civilians who use the deck will be able to notice people's faces by playing with the deck.
I mean look, this deck was a great marketing ploy. It has everyone inside and outside Iraq curious as to who is on that deck.
I just hoped they had the Info min as a joker ;D
