I don't think the fact he is "British" would even hurt him... (besides the fact unless you were born before 1829 you need to be be born in the US to be eligible to be POTUS) We Brits have suddenly become very popular in the US- On two seperate occasions since the war broke out I've been thanked for Britain helping the US in Iraq (like I had anything to do with it... Heck, even if I was still in England Blair wouldn't get my vote... I would never vote for the Labour party- communists the lot of them!!! )

Well I have to say that Blair is most certainly a better speaker than Bush (then again, that is not really too much of an accomplishment!)
I was thinking the other day that they should make Blair the official spokesperson for this whole event, and keep some of the Bush administration (particularly RUmsfeld and Bush), and I'm sure they would improve their popularity.

kind of sad state of affairs that Blair is considered the intellectual speaker. There is a general lacking of superior intellect running many of the great nations these days with the greatest of them all lacking the most.
about the article above, it was always the risk that it would create the kind of nationalistic fervour across the arabic populations that might encourage more emboldened behaviour, which is one of many reasons why many sane people were against the war.
I have no doubt that the US will win, it will not be a vietnam but Bagdad will be tough and will result in huge loss of life among US and UK troops, nevertheless the US will win.
The problem for the US, is while it clearly does have massive technological superiority and bombing capability, the leaders are hugely aware of the world watching them. They cannot come out looking like the bad guys and are doing what they can to avoid fights in civilian vicinities, they are fighting under certain call it ... queensberry rules of war, but the Iraqi's are not. There have been ambushes where a group of Iraqis faked a surrender only to go on and kill a few americans. They are fighting from within a hospital.
The US could destroy Iraq completely if it so chose, yet it is doing what it can to engage only Iraqi soldiers who are not hiding within civilianpopulations. They are being dragged into a guerrila war.
All in all though, the superior fire power and training and technology in general will win the day without a doubt in my mind. The worst case scenario is this drags on for 2 months instead of 2 weeks.
At what cost? Sadaam a martyr figure for the fundamentalist islamic world? God save us all from that insanity!
