ROFL, but....
Once again I have found another area where I become semi hypicritical....and like my struggles with the right to arms, it involves life:
The Right to Multiply.
Here in America, we have plenty of freedoms, but they are usually regulated. My favorite ones all seem to require a licsense of some sort, which is earned by studing for & then passing some kind of test.
In a nutshell, I'll give you a quick run down:
When it comes to minor (almost trivial things) the Government requires you to pass a test & become liscensed for the following:
Hunting Fishing Driving a car
These are things that seem rather trivial to me...(to be honest, I choose not to hunt or fish, but still I find these common sense items.)
BUT when it comes to something that's no where near trivial...such as breeding, or multiplying...it seems the government loves it's ignorant masses....LOL!
Why is it not required to have a licsense to BREED & Multiply?
I mean this involves HUMAN life...and it's a real horror story when you see these people on the Jenny Jones show, that actually continue to multiply over & over again....sometimes they're 17 years old and have three kids & another on the way!!!!! What the hell is up with that?
LOL...OK, just another one to ponder...should it be required to have a liscense to breed?
I think it wouldn't hurt to have people take & pass a test about the RESPONSIBILITY of child raising....while on the other hand, I don't think Government should tell people if they can, or cannot multiply....Wuff. Delima.
I'll expand more on this later....I'm just out of time, but have some real issues with Government involvement, but more so with these people who continually squirt out child after child, and can't even take care of themselves....
Wuff, RacerX

RacerX,
I couldn't agree with you more!!
It is actually a topic that often gets me mad. Then, on the other hand, look at the process hopeful parents need to go through in order to adopt a child.
Perhaps the same measures that are used by the government for adoption should be applied to couples wanting to "breed".

You got to take a test to hunt or fish. Hell it cost me $14 to get me permit to fish. Hell in indiana all you have to do is not have a felony and you can get a handgun.

X,
I agree in part- it would be good if unfit parents WERE NOT able to breed... but the fact is- people ARE going to have unprotected sex whether they have license or not!
If you take the kids away from them- there are going to be a WHOLE lot of parentless kids!
I know a lot of people are lining up to adopt kids- BUT- there are more teenage pregnant high school girls in the US than we know what to do with.
Currently in the US 1 out of every 3 children are being born to unwed teenage mothers:
Exactly the kind of people YOU DON'T want to be breeding!
So whereas I agree with you- some people shouldn't be multiplying... what are you going to do about it?
Mass abortions?

You want solutions?? First and foremost: EDUCATE THEM!!!. I cannot believe my ears when watching Jenny Jones and the likes (yes, I do watch it occasionally when in the US), the discourse of these irresponsible teenage mothers is appalling, almost criminal - wanting a child is one thing, being able to support it is another, they just don't think of the consequences. And again, I don't care if these mothers are in DEEP trouble, it's the children I'm concerned about, they haven't asked to be there, they deserve every chance life has to offer. Next: Tell this idiotic pope to STOP campaigning against contraception and abortion in regions where they desperately need to control their population (i.e. South America, Africa). Let them make their own choices and decisions. OK, I'll stop before I get my blood pressure sky high again, some topics I should better leave alone.

Beef & Aj...you're killing me...too damned funny! LOL!
On a serious side, this really is a problem "attacking" our society/civility.
Part of me believes the Government really knows there is a problem, but refuses to acknowledge or address the problem. I really think the "Educated" are quickly becoming the minority, and these ignorant, government dependent masses are much easier to control.
greg99, you are correct: EDUCATION is really the only answer. These dumb bastards, they're so selfish & ignorant, they haven't a freaking clue....and the poor child...what kind of chance will he/she have? I know it's better than having NO chance (wyc, this is my answer to abortion...LOL...I'm against it).
The real solution to ALL the worlds problems is education, but once again, we find government ignoring education in favor of some inflamatory issue that will get them votes. Sh*t, if everyone wisened up, they'd vote these idiot right out of government...LOL, that's the real reason behind the governments lack of pushing education.
TC, in Texas, we only have to buy a the license to hunt &/or fish...but still it's regulated. To carry a concealed weapon, you must take a course & PASS the final test. To own a firearm, you simply need to be 18 & pass a background check. (Too easy, if you ask me)
OK, I was just curious to others responses here. It really is becoming a problem...and it's only getting worse because it seems those educated are having the typical 1.5 children...or adopting. Funny thing about our constitution over here...It doesn't give you the right to be stupid! It only guarantees you the right to an education!!! ;D
Glad to see some of you bring up adoption! I was adopted...LOL! That's another thread. Like one of you said: people jump through hopes to adopt, while the ignorant simply pop out another, and another, and another, and another, and another.....

I know you're against abortion- thats why I mentioned that- I was launching a sneaky side attack!!! LOL
My point was- there are not enough foster parents for todays teenage mother crowd.
Education IS the key... But I'm not as optomistic that we can educate enough people correctly to stop knocking each other up in high school to make a difference- at least not without a major overhaul of the education system.
Perhaps it belongs in another topic--- BUT...
I'm all for a mandatory "Citizenship" curriculum.
Each year ALL students must take lessions that:
a) teach a thorough study on the countries history- why and for what it was founding.
b) government- not the pansy half a semester flunky crap currently in place- but each year teach students how the government works. State, federal and local. All students should know who their Governor, Lt. Governor, Senator, President, Representative is. Shockingly most adults probably couldn't answer this.
People should also know heads of the country's major trading partners... How many people in America know the President of Mexico- or the Prime Minister of Canada... I guarantee MOST could not name the premiers of the US's two bordering nations.
People should also know what the major parties stand for!
c) Morality- Although I don't think the government should dictate morality- I think it is important the government teach WHAT is acceptable BY WHOM. And what different group consider moral and not. It should also be explained why things are considered moral by groups- and the students left to form their own opinion.
d) Responsibility- stuff like sex ed... the dangers of drugs, smoking, con artists, getting a good job, gambling, drinking. Teach the students these things (or rather about these things) - if they still want to screw up- thats fine- people should have the right to be a dumbass... BUT... all the above issues are important parts of education.
- most of these subjects ARE covered in school- but they are usually flunky classes- where you pass just for showing up.
I think their should be a TOUGH national standard that all kids SHOULD pass.
I got Slightly off topic- I know, BUT... teach kids these non academic topics- and things like TEEN pregnancy might decline.

First of all you cannot licence the right to breed. No one has the right to license anyones capability for breeding, what do you suggest? we make them all infertile before thy get a chanve?
You may as well licence the right for me to take a crap. The licence for me to live
The only solution is the chinese model. The government will reward those who only have one child, any more and you lose many benefits! If you are wealthy enough to support the child then have as many as you like, if you want government support, better stick to one!
Of course thats all very well assuming the teenage mothers consider the consequences of their actions, trouble is they have two or three deciding to worry about the ability for them to take of their children later. At that point what is a decent society supposed to do? leave the family to suffer and go hungry? or try and help?

NO Beef - chinese model not good either! Unless you want to see more new born girls floating in the gutters.....
To come back on the teenage mothers: what model do they have? Their grandmothers are probably 45 years old. They don't know any better, they know their mothers have survived it because they were helped..... society WILL help, it's a vicious circle and some people are very good at abusing that. But there's nothing we can do about that, or can we?
