Did anyone see the documentary "The future is Wild" on the Discover channel last night?
That was one interesting show. Although I wish they had explained more why they predicted certain evolutionary changes to happen.
The basic premise behind the show, (if you didn't see it and are curious), is they got a group of evolutionary biologists together, and tried to predict possible evolutionary changes over the next 200 million years...
It was a really interesting show- and for the most part I could see their logic why they thought certain animals would evolve in certain ways...
But 200 tonne tortoises? C'mon- they provided no evidence or explanation for the 200 tonne tortoises- tortoises are barely surviving now- with man moving predators around the globe and wiping out tortoises left and right I'd be surprised if tortoises survived another 10 thousand years- let alone become the dominant species in 100 million years!

That was probably their "catch", or their made up story to hook, surprise, shock the audience.
I'm guessing alot of stuff will continue to evolve or change or disappear in the future...(namely us people if we don't wake up...LOL). As for 200 ton Turtles...(yes, I said "turtle" instead of tourtise, sounds even funnier...LOL, I'm not seeing the connection there either.
I'm with you Wyc, I'm guessing they might be gone sooner than that.

LOL...
No I think their catch is- Tree-Squids are going to be the next civilization forming species once man is extinct!
;D
- but they gave reasons for why the intelligent land/tree squids would evolve... none was given for the giant tortoises.
