X-mas is here, and you are wondering what to get me. Well, fear not, every year, millions ask the same question. And this year, my present will SAVE you money. But first alittle story:
The Swiss-based food giant, Nestle, has defended its demand for $6m in compensation from famine-stricken Ethiopia. The dispute with the Ethiopian Government centres on a livestock firm that was owned by Germany's Schweisfurth Group, a Nestle subsidiary, before being nationalised by the former communist regime in 1975. Nestle has been offered $1.5 m so far. "I think it goes way beyond the legal case," a Nestle spokesman told the BBC. "I think it is in the interest of the developing countries in general to have a continued flow of foreign direct investment." He said it was "very important for a country like Ethiopia that people do not fear to invest in that country". More than 40 governments and individuals are making claims against the Ethiopian Government for money lost during the communist regime. According to poverty relief organisation Oxfam, the Ethiopian Government has offered to pay Nestle about $1.5m (£930,000) - a figure based on the current exchange rate between the dollar and the Ethiopian birr. But the food giant is pushing for a payment of $6m, a sum based on the exchange rate in force at the time of the nationalisation.
So for Srrh's x-mas: boycott Nestlé and their immoral ass.
This was a public interest announcement. Thank-you for shopping at Shamu Croaks.

I never did like Swiss chocolate much anway. I have a preference for Belgian chocolate in that case, so no problem from me... ...except that Nestlé has so many brands and companies that it is almost impossible to not purchase Nestlé goods. I tried once to compile a list of brands/companies that are owned/run by Nestlé, but I lack too much information. Their web site is not much help either. On a similar note, are any of you familiar with the Max Havelaar brand of goods? This is a brand selling things such as coffee, bananas etc., produced in poor countries of the Southern hemisphere. Their goal is to ensure that the producers receive a proper pay for their products, and are not exploited. Here is a link www.maxhavelaar.ch/web/havelaar/mainR2.nsf/WEnFrame Here in Switzerland we can buy a number of products by this brand, and I have switched to trying to buy only their coffee and bananas. So, Srrh, perhaps I can give you a Max Havelaar banana for christmas! ;D

Man you must have a ton of freinds.
Next year ask for 5 dollars from everyone, you can retire on that. Or ask for $100 from everyone and you would be making M$ money. ;D

well this issue was brought up at my uni elections a few weeks ago cause our university shops already have a ban on nestle products. you had to vote to keep the ban or to raise it. well i was just about to keep the ban and then i realised that it really should be an individual choice whether to ban nestle or not, personally i really dislike the stuff anyway, so never eat it. well not suprisingly the ban was upheld, i mean i agree with it, but i just disagree with the fact that it's being upheld in such a way. until very recently i thought my university was quite down to earth, but recently i have been seeing ashit like this, people who beleive their way is the only way and therefore force their views on everyone else and who preach and have a huge stick shoved...well you know. i think as we approach the end of our first year the university supremacy is beginning to set into many of them! jeeez i've even seen a few sporting an ivy league walk!!! ok sorry for that rant!
