After being a Shamuist for only a few days, y mosied on over to the old hang-out and discovered plenty-o-thread concerning the new "moderators". As a matter of fact, the most interesting topics were the ones concerning the moderators. They are there to "police" the forum and run off users of the so called 4-letter words. You know something, fellow shamuists? I never noticed that people were using profanity to express themselves. Words are just words, they are a part of self expression. How could I properly communicate to you all that I think MS is an a**hole without using that word? I probably was insulted too, but I never encouraged it. I never replied to them and angered them more. My point is that forums tend to be self-regulating. Those that have good arguments and communicate themselves well get heard more than those that do not. And those that just insult and dont contribute to the thread why even read their posts? I probably have a thicker skin than most and dont care about being called any name. But I understand it does bother some. What I cant stand about the moderators is that they have prohibited links to other sites or even mentioning where your information came from. I always mantioned where I read my rumour. In my view, it gave credibility to my thread and made the forum's information more valuable. We were also privy to links to so many interesting bits of trivia. Through links were read F1 jokes, downloaded videos, and learned. Too bad.

There were problems on F1-Live.
A moderator was needed- Franck asked for suggestions of moderators and was given a list of trouble makers as a joke.
A moderator was needed- F1 Live was getting pretty bad... However, the new rules, and the current moderators are absurd.
I think you will find that many fellow Shamuists also oppose the sanctions on F1-Live.

Not only do I oppose them but I have a good mind to go over there and REALLY go out in a blaze of glory! Tell the moderator to *%$# off, ask Franck to politely bite me, suggest to T3 that when he was born, his father wasn't married to his mother. I'll tell The Iceman that his mum wears army boots and that prat F1&CART...oh, he's a right twit! I'll register 9 different nicks with the same IP and post a few links to some competitors' sites.
That should get em all red hot.
OK...on a serious note, they have gone quite a bit overboard. I actually don't miss it. I cruise by there in the mornings just to get the latest news from the main page. That's about it.

Ok I can understand the cut and paste as a legal issue. Maybe even the links to other sites in the business sense of giving them hits. The one I don't really understand is the print media ban. The posting of the Banned and Warning List is a bit much, lol Like a public execution That's a bit over the top. I'm sure it will settle down, if not just T3 and Beef will be left posting to each other. I'll still post there for awhile longer.

I’m so surprised that I haven’t even received a warning for conduct that sees others with a permanent ban. ROFL……

Does that prove I'm not Robyn?

DC (at al): I'm genuinely amused by what Franck has done to the forum over there with the installation of his two frenchspeaking Puppets err... Moderators . While there was (& always has been) a need for a certain amount of moderation, the level they've taken it to is nothing short of absurd. I just got in from work, so haven't had the chance to cruise over and see what kind of work / sentences the mod's have done/handed out today, but I must say - I do get a huge kick out of reading the dialog concerning the new rules / moderators. Thumbs up to Deadcat .... you've had me howling with laughter over some of your comments. I also should tip my hat to Man In Short (Wycc??) .... I can't help but grin when I think of your stickman jpg with the little ditty "I hate you, you hate me, lets hang Bernie from a tree ..." ;D ;D CFF

The French moderating an English forum...nothing against good French peopel but I find it amazing considering the implications. Basically, I could get banned for conduct detrimental to the community if one day, while saying hello to my friend Richard, I said "Hey Dick, how're you feeling?" They would accuse me of name calling and using foul language.
Anyone know the French pronounciation for "pffft!"

i have moved on from f1-live. i visit because of the enormity of the place, bbut it is that very thing that has killed it.
it is too big, and the forum too simple and outdated to cope anymore.
it lacks necessary feautures and is too easily vulnerable to wankers posting on the forum.
my aim is more to recruit. i wish to save the really good/veteran members and bring them here, or to gp2003.

I dont think posting links to other sites poses any legal ramifications. F1-Dive's decision is based on their selfishness they dont want any link that may lead its memebers to discover that yes there are other F1 sites.
I would be willing to bet that somewhere on any site there is a page full of legal fine print where the host and the site disclaims any responsibility over what is posted.
ie something like this: "The contents of the posts in this forum are the sole responsibility of the individuals/members and do not reflect the views expressed by this site."
As to links to other sites, the use of links is not only free, but encouraged. You do not need permission to post a link on you site from anyone. As a matterof fact they are obviously welcomed since they generate traffic.

Hroark, I too, suspected that might be the case- which adds to their list of bad karma- lying.

F1-Live closed until further notice. GP2003 adverts all over that board. I suppose that most posters will now be showing up there.
I hope they get their act together and upgrade that forum.
