Gotcha message Henrik !
This may not be the right place for the stories. We could ask Wycco to move the thread elsewhere.
The following story I posted at F1-Live early last year and as far as I remember raptor22 was the only one to respond. So, if I'm repeating old news, forgive me.
Recuerdos de MonacoNo, I am not Spanish,nor do I speak the language, it's just that I know that "Recuerdos De La Alhambra" (Brilliant bit of music!) is about Tárrega's rememberances of the Alhambra (@granada?). This is what I remember of Monaco.
1995, My wife had just fallen preggers with our son and realising that travelling abroad (we are from SA) would become rather difficult once she popped, we decided to take a short three week trip through Europe starting in London. It so happened that we were part of a helluva tremendous group of people from all over the globe. Anyway, this is about my Monaco experience.
We arrived in Monaco for what was no more than just a look-see. It was about 10 days before the Grand Prix and there was quite a lot of activity where guys were putting up the barriers next to the track (streets). We were taken on part of the track leading down to and through the tunnel. The driver of the bus (an Italian with the name Paolo and one HUGE (he was not small either) Ferrari, Berger and Alesi fan) stopped at the exit where we were to take an elevator to the same level as the Casino. For a (long) while I stood in the middle of the road looking back through the tunnel. It's far too difficult to describe my emotions at the time. I put my hand on the tarmac and tried to imagine the sensation these guys must have coming out of that black hole at break-neck speed. I couldn't. It all looks so damned easy when you watch it on TV. I don't think it is. Afterwards, long afterwards, I realised that should have broken from the group and walked the whole track. The tour leader, Sally (two bricks and a tickey high - from Wales - bless her!), would not let me as: "we don't have enough time!"
Anyway, up at the Casino bend there was quite a commotion. Someone had spread the news that Claudia Schiffer was about to appear from the Hotel and yes, that was her Rolls waiting for her! There we stood. Waiting, waiting, waiting. One of the Mexican girls in our group then promptly walks up to the Rolls Royce (No I don't know whether it had a BMW engine) and poses for all the camera bearing tourists. Well as it turned out to be, Ms Schiffer never pitched. (I really should have walked the track)
Then my wife wanted to look at the garden. She is a Horticulturist. (I really should have walked the track)
Then we visited the casino (not the CASINO, the other one). (I really should have walked the track)
Then Paolo arrives on time, we had to leave, while I was thinking: "I really should have walked the track"
Well, to all the lovers and bashers of the F1-Live Forum on this Monaco Friday (boring), may the best man of the DAY win on Sunday. If it is DC then so be it. If it is RB, and I hope it is, then so be it. If it is JPM then so be it. If it is M$ then so be it. Only, and only if who-ever it is, is also the BEST of the DAY. Olivier Panis ? Again ?
BTW, In 1995 I was a MSchu fan (Paolo and I argued about that - but what else would you expect of an Italian Tifosi, nothing more or nothing less, they argue about anything) Then afterwards I became a M$chu fan when he joined Ferrari or Ferrari joined him, depending on your politics. I have no intention of changing.
El Sid
also (not widely) known as Gungit, an alias used when I need to say "Gungit effed" etc. or,
to state the following:
e = m$²
which is a truth conceived by Einstein and now adopted by Ferrari.
where:
e = excellence
m = Michael
$ = Come on ..... US Dollars!
² = Lots, and lots.
Fiat may just be saved hehehe!
