Da_matta in MTL: stupid or arogant ?

Have you seen this ? What da hell was the N.H team thinking about.
"We did our earlier stop in order to increase our window of opportunity. Franchitti had 4 to 5 laps to pit. CdM had 20 such laps." said his manager.
So what? It still costed him an extra pit stop (26-28 secs)...and ultimatly the race...what sort of a duffus move is that? Who can tell me what that was all about?

Thanks Srrh! Sushi place duly noted. I am itching to get back to Montreal - we were planning on attending this race but had a change of plans.

As to Da Matta, what can I say? I was listening to the coverage on cart.com and almost choked when I heard Da Matta was coming in so early - that was not a very smart move. I obviously won't complain as the winner of the race was a well deserving one and my fave must I add.

And the commentators kept ranting and raving on how great that place was, how welcoming, how much fun...yeah, yeah, just rub it in.....

And I forgot to say: sorry about Carpentier, that was really unfortunate, especially in Montreal. Poor Tag that was tag..ging along to grab a few points with an agonizing car.

The race was quite processional, perhaps the problem with F1 is the circuits as the CART race was as boring as every F1 race this year, if Da Matta and Newman Haas hadn't screwed up so badly he definately would have won. Montreal might be an OK city but the track isn't exactly spectacular. Moreover, on the Speed coverage Derek Daly during his race introduction had been talking to fans to whom they had stated that Carpentier and Tag were who they rooted for and as far as they were concerned Paul Tracy was from Toronto as good as another country, fucking ignorant pigs showed absolutely no class and are an embarassment to Canada, quebecois are basically racists, they hate English speaking people and they also hate the native population in quebec, I have NO respect for these people at all.

And I agree with the track not being spectacular, unfortunately. I still wish I had seen the race. If Tracey is not very popular, I could hear the crowd cheering for Dario when he won, much louder that I have ever heard before on cart.com (and I missed the Vancouver race, whose crowd roar must have been something else too). By the way, thank you Dario for remembering Greg Moore the way you did - you made me cry.....

I have no comment to make about the French speaking Quebecois, although I have to admit having noticed their lack of "class" during my many times at Montreal - a real shame.

First of all, Takagi was doing great, until his car let him down. I thought I was drunk from the fume when I heard his on-track position after 40-50 laps. He's not a very good singer though...

Secondly: Tracy is as Canadian when in MTL, as Carpentier when in Toronto. Last year, I was sitting next to two morons who were yelling "C'mon frog" everytime Pat was passing by the Toronto straight.

Third: The fav of the QC crowd is Carepentier by FAR. Tag is a whinner: any one who's seen (or heard) the Vancouver GP knows what I am talking about: I dislike him almost as much as Ralf (hehehe) and so do many. Furthermore, any one who's seen tracy race (taking Dario out or fighting with B.Green...) knows he is the same.
And what did we hear a few weeks back? Player's is sacking Pat (the best driver of the pair) to make way for Fat Pauly...
Errrr, yes, people are a bit pissed.
And so am I!

Note: Whatever you guys might think, Tracy was looked at in MTL as a "home boy". He receive EXACTLY the same treatment as Tag and Pat. Furthermore, he received a STANDING ovation at the final parade lap. I know, even I got up.

Finally: your note about class: every group contains it's fair share of classless idiots. Actually, in Ontario, you went as far as to elect them.:-)


PS: Good point about the circuit, but since it was a first, there was still plenty to enjoy.

BTW: who's got the answer about Da_Matta ? I am still trying to figure it out...

2)I don't think they care, they want out (by over 60%) of the country. Embarassing it, is the least of their worries, me think. Personnally, I think with the prime minister in charge, you have other reasons to be embarrassed.

5)They actually signes a treaty 3 month ago that would make any other province blush: by giving cree indian independant courts. Now all first nations in Canada want the same.

BTW: Tracy announced his intentions on TAG before the race: "He better get out of my way"...incredible people didn't boo him throughout his parade lap....

Quebecios are racists, I hold Pariseau as a prime example of the intolerance in Quebec, has anything changed since he left no. Frankly I think Canadians should have a referendum to see if we want Quebec in Canada (to which I would vote yes). To say such stupid things in front of international media is tasteless. Quebecers are treated as everyone else in Toronto (indifferently LOL) but English speaking Canadians are looked upon with scorn in Quebec, and that is fact.

I am not going to loose anything, joining anyone: I am belgian, already a member of the EU. What else could I possibly want? I am not Canadian, and can't even vote. Still I've been here since 87 and studied in the country. A few things at least are obvious...
What is a fact, is that given the choice, much more then half of the french speaking population in quebec would like to get out of canada (64%, I looked it up, for the 95 referendum). I don't think they want to get out because they are treated so nice...
They will (eventually) go. Get use to the idea.
It was 60-40 in 1980, 49.5-50.5 in 95 and the trend in this province ain't dying. Guess why? Because it appears people in this province are sick of being treated as second class citizen and I have to admit that being french in Canada, is a bit like being black in the US: you don't know exactly why, but your gut tell you that you'll never quiet get the same chances as others...

Excuse me da_silva, but I've been covering canadian politics since 93 for a Belgian paper called La Meuse and I am pretty sure of my figures: as a matter of fact, they're official numbers originating from the canadian census bureau.
Either way, unless you move to the Belle Province, I doubt you'll have a say on the matter.lol
My personal opinion? I don't really care either way. It's not like I am going to loose my money or my passport over the hole thing.
They'd probably have to change the name of the local hockey team (Les Canadiens) though.

All this to say Tracy was well treated in MTL.
As I stated earlier he got a standing ovation (at least in the hairpin, which is where I was) and received "preferencial treatment" from the fan. It wasn't as wild as for Carpentier, but probably equal to what Tag received.

The Bullshit was refering to the discrimination against French speaking Canadians (of which there are many throughout Canada and not just in Quebec). If anything the Federal government has gone out of their way to accomodate the province of Quebec. And this is not the place to bring up terrorist like actions of the FLQ in the 60's and 70's but that is what they were. Canadians constantly have to sit on the sidelines and listen to quebec whine about their language issues (Quebec people not French speaking Canadians). If you look at Canada as a whole the West don't like Ontario, the East doesn't like Ontario and Quebec don't like Ontario, why, because we have the greatest population and wealth, do you hear Ontarians complain about the downloading and equalisation of payments to provinces. Quebec were given over $1B last year, Ontario received nothing from the Federal government, I don't hear anyone complaining about that. The referendum in '95 basically split the province, I'm not sure of the 60-40 you speak of but Canadians don't want Quebec to leave, we also don't want Quebec to lose it's language, why would it, French is an official language of Canada, but the seperatists constantly use this as a weapon of discourse. What Derek Daly said on international TV upset me because he had been told by Quebecois that PT means nothing to them he might as well be from another country, that's embarrasing, in reality Paul was supported I have no doubt of that, just as Tag and PC were in Toronto and Vancouver. I think it would have been pretty neat to see Fat Pauly win the race. Even if I think he's a mad man, I sort of appreciate his kamikaze approch to racing...
Personnally if I were Gerry F., I'd sack Tag and keep Carpentier to duo with PT.
Now they're even talking about a third player's car (for PC) that would be partially sponsored by the cart serie. why would cart do that? because they seem to fear not having 18 cars on the grid next year.
