:'(This was announced today (Saturday, April 19th) The world of motorcycling racing was in mourning on Saturday afternoon when 26-year-old Honda rider Daijiro Kato finally lost his battle to survive the horrific injuries he suffered during a crash two weeks ago in the Japanese GP. Eurosport would like to express their most heartfelt commiserations to the Kato family. MotoGP's circuit doctor, Dr Costa, expressed his grief with a brief note on the Clinica Mobile website: "Very sad news have just arrived from Japan. If our young Japanese decided to listen to the voice of angels and enter the valley of light, choosing to abandon this world, he chose to do it in the most emblematic night for man, the night of Easter and of Resurrection. "There aren't enough tears to express our sadness, and no adequate words except the words of poetry." Daijiro, 2001 250cc World Champion is survived by his wife and two young children. RIP Kato-san .... you will live in our memories CFF

Sadly motor racing is also this.... RIP Kato-san, Best wishes to his wife and kids... "Who is to say he had not seen more, done more, or learned more in his 26 years than many people do in a lifetime. To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one's ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, and not in years alone."

i love racing bikes. but one of the reasons that i choose not to watch motorcycle racing is because it scares me. these people rank among the bravest of the brave. if i should die, my only wish is that it is swift and that it is on a bike and that i don't take anybody else just because i had a deathwish

Yes, sad. RIP from me also. On a less sombre note. Will any of you be watching the MotoGP to be held at Phakisa (South Africa) coming weekend? High altitude track at about 4000m AMSL. Real thin air. Not that I follow MotoGP as such, but I seem to recall that riders quite like the track.

I'll be watching as always. Only I don't think I know the Phakisa track. Didn't they race at Welkom, or is that the same track?

Henrik,
Phakisa is to Welkom as what Kyalami is to Jo'burg. So Welkom is right.
From what I understand, Phakisa can also host CART if need be. I must admit that I'm not too sure about that.

ElSid,
Okay, well that clears things up!
Yes, Phakisa (Welkom) does have a dual track layout, including a proper oval. As such, an oval CART race, or a NASCAR race for that matter, could very well be held there. I would suppose that when the promoters built the place they were hoping to possibly attract CART, and who knows, it might still happen.
Yeah, I hear the bikers usually like the track, especially I think McCoy. The only problem is the dust on the track, providing at times a rather precarious grip!

High altitude track at about 4000m AMSL. Real thin air. That's not right. Should be about 4000ft I apologise for the mistake. But I will accept the booby prize:

Hmmm, I knew it was a high altitude track, but I didn't catch on to your mistake. 4'000 meters would indeed be f**king high altitude!!!!! So, since I didn't catch you mistake, I suppose I can also have a
