I don't care what they look like, or how user friendly they are, as long as their easy for you to link up with!

I would suggest that the chat room be accesible using mirc or some other irc program...other than that, I agree with my colleagues.

OPtion 1 is accessible through Irc- Option 2 isn't...
The only advantage with Option 2 is it is quicker to load...
BTW Option 3 was a messenger type chat room- but after reviewing it- we'd be better off with AIM or MS Messenger...
So I take it Option 1 is in the lead?

hmmm,
i've never figured out how irc works. seen a couple of friends do it, but found it rather tedious to hook up to a server, join a group whatever. hell it was so complicated i don't even remember what it was i found confusing.
but i do use msn, and i'd be delighted to chat with some of you in real time. i'll post my id on the elite section.

Smokingun, there is a link for the chatroom on the ShamuLinks box at the top of the page just above the News Fader. i've seen that, and even clicked a link sometime back when you asked us to test a chat room. the problem with me is that: a) no irc type software installed, and i don't think it's allowed here at work, though i can instally mirc on my linux box at home. b) from what i have seen of irc it looks complicated. *shudder* smokingun |

You may be blocked from work- that is a possibility...
What should happen is... a page should load... in the middle of the page a Java Applet should load (this may take a minute)...
All you need to do is type in your name into the Applet and click "Continue" (maybe it says Connect)...
Once in type in the message you want to send and click enter... as simple as that!
There are special commands- but you can get by with the above...
BTW_ if you go into the chat room- I advise you post a message on here before you do- otherwise you may find it empty!

ahh Mirc is way to complicated for me. I have the Mozilla browser and installed the Chatzilla IRC addon (all free). It is very easy to use and all i have to do is
/attach irc.[name of server]. com to get the server added, and then
/join #shamucroaks to join the channel.
Also it lets me (in preferences) log onto a server and channel at startup automatically
btw- what is the server's name

Pabs? You're our IRC expert- do you know the server name of #shamucroaks? Or how I can find out from within the chat room?
