Hey da_silva! Howdy Greg!
Sorry about that but..... 1. We on the west coast never considered the Ramones punk rock. They were always too soft, now before you get upset let me say that I have seen them like 6 X's and my definition of punk isn't the same for everyone.
2. The Clash... same as above....but the whole MTV thing with "Rock the Casbah" changed there designation for us also
3.OK I blew it on the stooges. and probably 45 other great bands that would qualify.
Greg...Honey....we just need to broaden your horizons some. Mark Farina is a great Dj but you can't listen to him driving to work at 8:00am...well you can but you should still be twisted from the nite before(hehehe). And punk rock IMO isn't any different then the experimental stuff that Coltraine/Monk/Miles did. It was about trying things and looking at the same stuff differently. What was most important about most punk rock was what they had to say. Yes punk could be overly political/juvenile/caustic etc...but mostly it was about energy and having fun. Like any type of music it has it's time and place
Beside greg...when you and NA99 get to San Diego we will probably end up dancing to one of those DJ's. By we I mean you and me because NA99 will be doing his "Lotion Therapy" and knocking back cocktails in the booth. One good point about that is.....we have someone to watch our stuff when we are on the dance floor!

H8,
Well frankly The Ramones pretty much started the punk movement right out of CBGB's in NY, it was after they toured in England that the whole thing blew up, so I think they should have a spot on that list. Just my opinion.
Can't forget MC5 and DOA either.
The Clash went a bit soft at the end but London Calling has to be one of the seminal punk records of all time, and just for that they should be on the list. Again just my opinion. ;D

H8,
I like the idea of a Jazz weakest link too, that could easily be broken into two threads, fusion/be bop and vocalists like Chet Baker and Sinatra thru to Harry Connick and Diana Krall.
Tons of music ones we could do. ;D 8)

hearing aid, you got yourself a date!
As to punk rock, I was never really into it, just a few stuff during my wild youth... but please do broaden my horizons, after all having been a radio DJ in Geneva in the 80s was probably not the same as having been one in the US.
see ya!

da_silva.... I do agree about the Ramones...you would also have to add "The New York Dolls" to that list and I think thats where the distiction may come in... Maybe were asking the wrong question...Maybe it should be the "best known" punk band, but so help me God if someone says "Blink 182" or "Green Day" I will bust! LOL
Maybe Most Punk-Punk rock Band?
What about best Female vocalist Eta James/Billie Holiday/etc...
Wow...there is just to much...Best drummer/bass player/songwriter/voaclist/guitar/guitar solo/ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I've got to stop.

they dont HAVE to be PG 13 photo's of the porn stars,.. do they? Unfortunately, YES! The agreement for the forum when signing up with the hosts, proboards, was no porn. My definition of this: No nude nipples- and at least a thong properly worn on the lower part of the body.

LOL... Well- I thought it was "Powder-Puff" girls too- so I guess you're not alone... errrm- arn't they supposed to be young girls... wouldn't that make them in thongs pretty disgusting... Regarding Speed Racer- never seen it myself... You should have mentioned it BEFORE I started Group B- then I could have added it!
