Well here is an interesting note. It seems that Nascar has came to Tony george to try to buy the indianapolis motor speedway. YOu see Tony gets all the money for the indy 500, but has to pay kickback to Nascar and Bernie for the brickyard 400 and USGP. right now 1.5 billion is at stake on this deal. If it works Nascar controls the indy 500 and if they want to kill it or revamp it, Tony won't be able to cry for that crap series the IRL.
However, I know that 1.5 billion sounds like alot. The track makes so much money in cash that is would be very interesting to see what it really makes. Note that The people that work at the track are 90% volunteer so he pays them nothing. Even the local police have said that ol Tony has never reported the entire amount. So it can be seen that Tony might not be able to sell it becuase the next year Nascar might play by the rules and report the entire income, Or they might not report it either.

Hey TC,
How much is the avg ticket price to the Indy 500, just wondering cos 400,000 people to one race a year is a lot of cash.

Indy 500 Figure about 100,000 - 200,000 pay at least $75 for face on he straights. about 150,000 get the $150 tickets. it is about $325 per suite ticket. you can figure about everyone is good for an average of $40 in food and crap like a t-shirt. So at least 125million for the race. Brickyard 400 has a little less people and roughly the same prices.
USGP has about 150-175,000 people.
also factor in the sponsorships for the race, Tv money, and all the extra money made from the quals and practices and you got at least 300 mil a year (reported).
Not bad for not having to pay almost anyone. then you get all the kickbacks from the city so you make a hell of a lot of money.

Following the announcement that Barry Green sold the Team Kool Green to Michael Andretti, I just read a new very interesting rumour, that if it proves to be true, would help in breathing some well needed life in to CART for next year. It seems as if Barry Green sold because he was fed up with sponsors etc not being committed to CART. As such, with the money he has made, he intends to buy the old PWR (Pac West) racing outfit, and together with primary sponsor Molson, will field a two car team next year. Drivers are rumoured (yeah I know, still more rumours) to be Patrick Carpentier and Michael Valiente. Go Barry, and I hope you continue to drag Tony George through court about the Indy 500 (or Indy 499 3/4).

Paul Tracy has been offered a position at the Players Forsythe team as Carpentier's contract is up at the end of the year and most likely will not be renewed. Tracy is weighing all his options at the moment but this may be his best offer.

da silva,
That does follow up on my previous post, and also the chat we had yesterday.
Pairing Tag and Tracy could be a good combination, and might re-ignite the spark in Tag. Also, if the rumour about Carpentier (and Valiente) with Barry Green in the former PWR team, comes true, there should be two good contenders for CART in 2003.
Ahh, I must continue to be optimistic about CART's future, such racing is not allowed to die! Damn, we don't get racing in F1 since a few years, and I won't even begin to talk about IRL...
If only Chris Pook can work out a deal with Eurosport for next year so that I can start watching the races again!

In a public presentation held recently, Chris Pook and others spoke up about the future of CART, and answered a number of questions. Although nothing really certain can be derived from what was said, there were a number of issues touched upon that should inspire confidence for a positive future. Probably the most noteworthy was that CART has now received 25 letters of intent for entries in 2003. This normally includes most of the current entries, but also sees three coming from Atlantic teams wanting to move up. There is also a European team that has a clear intention of entering. If only they can indeed increase the field from the current 18, it would be great! Another interesting point is that they are seriously considering having standing starts for all road circuits. Rolling starts are not bad, but I think standing starts will help add to the excitment. What else....Bobby Rahal clearly wants traction control removed. Go Bobby!! Couldn't agree more. I think CART is far from dead, and I like it!

I hope the IRL goes away too. Back in the day the PPG INDY CAR series was something to watch. The best part being that Indy was a special event governed by USAC and there was diffrent rules to this race. A Good example Penske using a special pushrod motor MAde by Mercedes designed to fit in the rules for INDY. he had a Penske front row and won. This led to Tony George wanting to even the field by having low budget cars in his league. So he made the IRL. Penske responds with CART (aka Crybabies. At. Rogers. Track.) The retards basically put the knife to their throats and jammed it in the jugglar, becuase some series called NAscar and a few drivers like Jeff Gordon showed up at INdianapolis and he won the first brickyard 400. People here basically said screw those cheap open wheel rides and follwed the good ol boys.
What am i saying here, I dunno. I just know that we can't have 2 series cliaming to be the best open wheel series in america. I personally hate IRL, but people love ovals. I wish we could go back to the ol ways and hopefully if this track gets sold we can have it.

TC,
I also wish the IRL would go away.
Now, with regards to people loving ovals, when it comes to open wheel racing I am not so sure. Yes, the Indy 500 packs the grandstands, but all other oval races held in the US, be it CART or IRL, are seeing spectator figures in the low 20'000's. That is a bad turn-out in anybodies book! Especially when one considers sponsors such as Marlboro purchasing at least half of those tickets for the IRL events.
The two will never merge as there is too much hate between the two of them. One will eventually die out, and I'm hoping it will be the IRL.

Great news Henrik, 25 entries is a good figure, lets hope they all follow through. I don't want the IRL to go, I just want the CART series to be the dominant force in american racing. Oh and I'd love to see Penske come back on his hands and knees begging for forgiveness. LOL. And no more traction control would be good, no driver aids please. You go Bobby. Cheers,

Hen- you got a point with the 20,000 for an IRL race. I was thinking one thing and typing another.
I needed to segway to how people love Ovals in Nascar)my fault). I swear nascar fans only talk about how difficult tracks are, when all they have to do is turn left. IT is boring to me to see the same thing over and over, but people love the ovals. Personally i think INdy and Daytona should be the only ovals around. the rest should be road courses. these are suppose to be street cars racing.
It is tough to say what will happen. However i do get scared when i hear Nascar wants the Brickyard. You would be giving Nascar the ability to govern what happens in open wheel racing. This is bad becuase it is in NAscars interest to keep open wheel racing's numbers down so Nascar can get all the money. It is like a company buying someone out to dismantle it. I also doubt that NAscar really like F1 in america.

TC,
I figured you were talking mostly about NASCAR.
One thing though, if the Indy 500 would me removed, I think the IRL would completely die out, but CART would continue.
CART has survived for a while without the Indy, but the IRL is entirely built around it.
Anyway, the future will tell. I just hope the racing wins!!

Yes without the INDy 500, the IRL is toast. Sponsors only care about that one race when they put up there money.
