Interesting link I found on FARK: (I assume it is accurate) www.thedissidentfrogman.com/dacha/000185.htmlApparantly- following the squabble between France and the US: The French have removed all traces of US involvement from the monument at Normandy. US flags have been removed from the monument- but British and Canadian flags still fly alongside the French flag. Personally I think this is disgusting- that France would omit the memory of soldiers who died fighting a war to help them. All because of a political squabble!

I saw that same thing Wyc. Personally I think it is someone having a little fun with photoshop, and seeing if they can get a rise out of people. If it is true, it's shameful. I don't buy into the 'France owes the US' mentality. But I had several members of my family that stormed that beach in 1944, and it's disrespectful for those who lost their lives and the families that they left behind. Still think it's a hoax, though..... I know photoshop very well, and an amatuer could docture those photos. Ya know?

France now has Woody Allen doing commercials trying to get us yankees to vacation there. It seems that the French tourism board has seen a decline of a minimum of 15%.
HAHAHA i rather go to Spain!!!!

Of course you have all heard about this:
Nearly 16,000 people in some 20 countries were polled during the past month for the pew survey.
The study found that some three-quarters of those surveyed in France, 76 per cent, wanted a less dependent relationship with the United States on security and diplomacy matters.
A majority of German respondents, 57 per cent, were also less inclined to have a close relationship with Washington on such issues.
"People in most countries rate Vladimir Putin, Gerhard Schroeder, Jacques Chirac and Tony Blair more highly than they do Bush," the Pew report said.
It found that only modest percentages had confidence Bush would do the right thing in respect of international relations.
"The bottom has fallen out of support for America in most of the Muslim world," the survey said.
"Negative views of the US among Muslims, which have been largely limited to countries in the Middle East, have spread to Muslim populations in Indonesia and Nigeria."
In the UK, the US is more of a concern for global peace and stability then Syria.
No one cares about france....

Actually- I've been to France- and despite the jokes- I liked the people we met... well- could only communicate through my dad since I don't speak French- but had no reason to dislike them!!!!
- I would prefer to goto Spain anyway... for completely unrelated reasons.

O and BTW, in Canada, I heard yeasterday on the BBC that our view of the US was at a...50 year low !! 3-4 month ago, the PM even called the Bush team "morons" on camera...
Nice going...
French-Canadian joke: How do you call an american who falls in the St Laurence river? Pollution. How do you call 250 million americans in the St Laurence river? The Solution.

As the French now hate the Americans as much as they hate the British, do as we do. Next time you are in France try speaking Spanish, a surprisingly large percentage of French people speak Spanish. Explain that you Australian/Canadian/Irish and your partner does not speak Spanish. The conversation will then revert to English with no problems and you will find the French very helpful.

While we are on the topic, there was a ceremony held in France yesterday where a rose was placed on each of the tombs of the American soldiers who died in France, to honor them for the 4th of July. No real hatred of the US there.....
P.S. Like Srrh, I can't beleive I'm defending the French either!!

P.S. Like Srrh, I can't beleive I'm defending the French either!! Im a french citizen because i lived in Monaco a few years ago and living in Canada makes me very sad because of all the people that make jokes about the french. But people need to realize that Paris dosent represent France, most people from Paris are the biggest snobs to tourists, its discausting, most not all. If you go to where i was like Marseille and the mediterean, people are very nice. But you need to understand that there are so many tourists in Paris for the size of the city. It must be very annoying, New york is probably like that but its a huge city, Paris is always stocked with tourists and that can be an annoying thing for the people. But its no reason to be snobby and mean and i understand what you all say. But theres nothing tat makes me madder than hearing jokes here that the French are cowards and pussys because they surrendered to the Germans the world war. My grandpa fought hard for La Resistance and gave his life trying to save his country. What do people saying these jokes know about defending a country. I just think people should have more respect for countrys like France.

Julio,
I have lived 5 minutes away from the French border for the past 25 years, and can comfortably say that my experience with the French does indeed extend beyond a vacation to Paris. As for Srrh, being Belgian and very well travelled, I would also assume that the same can be said for him.
